Also a little bit of the very interesting story of George Clapperton, William-Henrys uncle, who migrated to Australia, bought three stations near Brisbane, married a local lady
, had two children and raised a son who left many descendants. The other child, a daughter died an infant. Then, there is this wonderful lady from Fochabers who went to the trouble to go to Elgin, to take a copy of the cathedrals register concerning all the Clappertons baptisms, marriages and burials. I did not put them in chronological order, but they are very easy to navigate and understand. (Thank you a million times again Mrs Burgess.)
A description of the origin and meaning of the name Clapperton that I found on the web.
Here is a regional map to help situate Morayshire, Scotland. Then a closer look at Fochabers, Elgin and Buckie.
By going to this adress you will find a very nice web site of the town of Fochabers.
In the first third of this page, on
5th the paragraph begining by 1858, you will find a description of a stained glass window dedicated to the memory of the Clapperton family. On the religious note, here is an article about Sister Margaret-Theresa in 1840.My father, Frederic Mill, son of Thomas Mill and Suzan Clapperton (W.-H.C.s daughter), took very great care of the pictures, letters and other things concerning his Clapperton ancestors.
How right he was, acts of God of many kinds having destroyed most of the Clapperton souvenirs and mementoes held by other members of the family, during the course of a hundred years or so.
I wish to thank Alonzo Leblanc, another grand-grandchild of William-Henry who gave me the letter and the family tree from Mgr W.R. Clapperton to uncle George Clapperton.
A few years back I was in communication with the descendants of James Clapperton, William-Henrys brother, who went to live in the U.S.A.
Unfortunately I lost all their addresses due to a major computer crash and the mailing address that I had was not working.
My letters returned marked wrong address. They had given me a superb history and adventures of their families, but unfortunately I can not use it, not having their permission to do so.
If you know, have or find things that you think could be interesting to the Clapperton family members to see, and would like them to be on this web site just let me know and it will be a pleasure to have them here so every one can have access to.

William Henry Clapperton, written by his
son George. It is basicaly the same as the english version on this page. He wrote a bit more
precisely about what was going on at his father's store and fish business and of his electoral
campaigns.
