ABF 350 Projects

All projects and/or research are designed to provide an environment to introduce you to software applications and refine your development skills.    In addition, the projects are designed with the business environment in mind, that is, the understanding that you will be working with a diverse group of individuals and as such, will be required to consider the consumer of each project. As such, projects require the application of any previous knowledge gained in the use of software tools and systems.    Projects are difficult to complete with any level of proficiency if started late or rushed.  In addition, projects are an integral part of the learning process required to master course material.   Therefore, projects should be started as soon as possible and finished before they are due.    Exams will cover material from lectures, reading assignments, in class assignments and skills learned from the computer projects.   Failure to complete an assignment will be detrimental to your grade on the project as well as on the exam. (see grade determination).

Students will be required to design a database application using MS Access.    They will populate the database with data, create input forms and design queries and reports.

Business Case w/Presentation:
A business case from the book will be assigned toward the end of the semester for analysis. Students will be required to research the case and analyze the results.   The students will provide a written summary to the instructor.     In addition, each team will prepare a 15-30 minute talk/discussion about their specific case for presentation to the class.

Note:    Documentation should be clearly marked and bound in a folder.   Remember that the professional appearance of all assignments is necessary for full credit.

Remember: Any assignment handed in late (after class has begun on the due date) may receive no more than  90% credit.   Thus, it is advisable to hand in what you have on the due date.

Exams:

There are two exams given for this summer. The exams will consist of multiple choice, true/false, fill-in the blank, short answer and essay questions.

Chapter quizzes/In-class assignments:

Up to seven chapter quizzes and/or in-class assignments will be given during class time. These assignments are designed to help students keep up with the readings, help then understand specific concepts and prepare them for the coming exams.    Point values for these quizzes range from 10 to 20 points.  Students will not be allowed to make up quizzes.

Participation/Professionalism:

Up to 2 (two) quiz grades will be given for class participation. In order to be effective and efficient, students must be prepared for class and actively participate in each class session. The participation grade is determined by active participation in discussions by the student. Professionalism is determined by the professional attitude of the student in all class related activities. The following activities can be detrimental to your professionalism grade: not following directions, disrespect for the instructor and/or other students, tardiness, class disruptions, using the computers during lectures, using the computers for non-class related activities.
