ABF 350 Policies STUDENT PREPARATION: Each student is responsibile to read assigned material before class. The class time will be
used to discuss the major points of the reading assignments and for a brief review of lab assignments and related student questions. Lectures and hands-on lab demonstrations assume careful student preparation, reinforced with supplemental reading and/or lab materials. CLASS ASSIGNMENT POLICY: Assignments are due either in the classroom (at the beginning of class) or posted online by the due date (unless class time is provided to finish assignments). Turn in what you have by the scheduled time for any partial credit you may have earned. Late assignments may receive at most 90% of the grade earned, and lose 30% each subsequent class period. No assignments more than three (3) class periods late will be accepted. Grades for assignments are posted on Blackboard. As many assignments are turned in electronically, they are graded electronically, thus, no paper copy of many of your assignments exist. Instead a spreadsheet (rubric) may be viewed in my office (during office hours) if you would like to know where you lost points. MAKE-UP EXAMS/QUIZZES: As a general rule, no make-up exams or quizzes will be given unless a written medical excuse is provided.
To be eligible for a make-up, you have to notify the instructor regarding the medical circumstances prior to the
examination or quiz. ATTENDANCE AND DISRUPTIONS: Because this is a summer class and each class period equals 1.25 weeks or regular classes, after three (3) absences the student's grade may be reduced by one (1) letter grade. Students that come late for class or leave class early will be counted tardy as this is disruptive to the entire class.
Excessive tardiness may affect your professionalism grade. Also, one quiz grade is derived from student attendance. An attendance sheet is passed around each class period, before and after break; it is the students' responsibility to sign the attendance sheet for each class.
INCOMPLETE: The grade of "I" is not given except for appropriately documented emergencies (illness or death) and then only within the guidelines of stated University policy. COMPUTER USE/LAB ASSIGNMENTS Students will be expected to spend a significant amount of time outside of class working on computer assignments. Computers in the classroom are to be used by students to take notes and work on approved projects. These computers are not to be used to listen to music, chat with friends, play games or check e-mail during class time. Violation will result in a reduction of the participation/professionalism grade. ACADEMIC HONESTY/INTEGRITY: Students will adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards Students must accept the responsibility to be honest and to respect ethical standards in meeting their academic assignments and requirements. Integrity in the academic life requires that students demonstrate intellectual and academic achievement independent of all assistance except for that authorized by the instructor. The use of an outside source, including electronic sources, in any paper, report or submission for academic credit without the appropriate acknowledgment is plagiarism. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to give credit for any quotation, idea or data borrowed from an outside source. Effort will be made to identify instances of cheating and the below sanctions may be imposed. Cheating on an assignment will result in a failing grade for that assignment. Cheating on an exam will result in a failing grade for the course and the students name will be submitted to the Dean of Students for further action.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: It is the student's responsibility to satisfy all the requirements of this course as specified in the course outline, by the instructor, in the University catalogues, and by the academic calendar. This outline and the academic calendar are published to allow students to schedule their activities in advance. Hence, ignorance of class or university requirements will not be acceptable. Check the academic calendar for drop dates. Physical or Learning Disability: To request and initiate services, you must submit to the Accessibility Center (The H.E.L.P. Program) proper official documentation verifying the disability. H.E.L.P. provides services for persons with learning and/or physical disabilities. After the student obtains the authorization and documentation from the Accessibility Center they must notify the instructor of said disability to receive an academic accommodation. For additional information contact the Accessibility Center at Room D-104, telephone (773) 442-5495. |
