The Visually Impaired People in Thailand

Of a general population of around 62 million people in Thailand, almost 1 million live with visual impairments, and about 110,000 of them are blind.

The socio-economic situation of the visually impaired (VI) people is a dismal one, often hopeless.  Most of them live in poor rural areas. Though they have rights, the people cannot make use of them, because of ignorance, social or cultural barriers. Many are not accepted well by the society.
