Licenced Veterinary Technicians                                                        Back to Staff Profiles

What is a licensed veterinary technician?
A licensed veterinary technician (L.V.T.) is much the equivalent of a registered nurse (R.N.) in the human medical field. Our L.V.T.'s completed a 2 year college program and earned Associate in Applied Science degrees. L.V.T.'s are required to pass a National and State Board Examinations, and must attend Continuing Education programs annually to maintain their licenses. L.V.T.'s are qualified and proficient in inducing and maintaining anesthesia, taking X-rays, collecting blood and urine samples, placing intravenous catheters, performing dental prophylaxis procedures, administering vaccines and medications with the direction of a doctor, running and interpreting many laboratory samples, and providing clients with knowledgable information regarding their pet's health care. L.V.T.'s are an invaluable asset to the veterinary profession and increase the standard of care we offer to our patients.
