Surgical Services

Our staff veterinarians are trained to perform routine surgical procedures including:

  • Ovariohysterectomies (spays)
  • Orchiectomies (neuter/castrations)
  • Onychectomies (front declaws)
  • Caesarian Sections
  • Cystotomies (urinary bladder stone removals)
  • Skin Tumor Excisions
  • Gastropexies (tacking stomach to abdominal wall to prevent GDV)
  • Abdominal Exploratory Procedures
  • Other procedures depending on the veterinarian performing the surgery

Should your pet require a surgical procedure that our veterinarians may have little to no experience performing, options will be discussed you regarding how to proceed.

Orthopedic Procedures

At this time, Centerville Animal Hosptal does not offer orthopedic surgical services (ex. internal fracture repair, cruciate ligament repair, patellar luxation fixations, and hip surgery) because of lack of equipment and training. However, it is our goal to begin offering these services in the near future. In the meantime, we will recommend a referral to a local surgical specialist with the training and facilities to accomodate our patients that require an orthopedic surgical procedure.

Anesthesia and Your Pet's Safety

Your pet's health and safety is our primary concern. We always offer the option of running some tests prior to recommending anesthesia for ANY patient prior to the procedure. Testing may include labwork (complete blood count, serum biochemistry, other tests deemed necessary based on the individual's age and condition) and an electrocardiogram ("EKG"). An individual anesthetic protocol based on your pet's condition and needs is selected by the veterinarian performing the procedure, and your pet is closely monitored by a licensed veterinary technician throughout the procedure while the veterinarian performs the surgery. Parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, oxygen saturation, and the heart's electrical activity are all monitored. Your pet is also closely monitored during the recovery process.

Dental Services

Centerville Animal Hospital offers dental procedures including:

  • Dental Xrays
  • Dental Prophylaxis (Scaling and Polishing using Ultrasonic Equipment)
  • Dental Extractions
  • Other Oral Surgical Procedures
  • Consultations regarding preventative care for dental disease with trained staff

We feel your pet's dental health is an important component of their overall general health. Two months out of the year (February and September) we have what we call "Pet Dental Health Awareness Months" where we focus on this often neglected area. Discounts on procedures and dental products are offered, and free dental consultations with our trained licensed veterinary technicians are available. Talk to one of our staff members for further information.
