It's not everyday that two people encounter one another and build the kind of trust that Chris and Eve had with one another.  Over the years we viewers watched their relationship expand into something wonderful and entertaining from both of the characters skeptical beginnings.  Eve and Chris were both unlikely allies, but when the rest of the world was too goodie for them, somehow their quirky remarks and cynicism budded into friendship.  The two over the years evolved into best friends and shared times of laughter and tears together.  While those days may be over for the time being one thing remains and that is the memories that the fans have of their times together. With all due respect  Chris in his own twisted way believes he's protecting Eve. He's seen her get hurt time and time again in the past and in his mind he feels that Ian is just like the other guys who've been with Eve. He's seen her heartbroken and whether people like to see it or not, he's harbored feelings for her for years. Yes, Chris is not the most honest guy, nor is he a 'hero with a kind heart' like Ian is, but I truly believe that if he really took a moment to think about things and he thought that Ian would truly make Eve happy, he'd let her be happy. Yes, I realize what he did today might seem underhanded, and in a way it was, but at the same time it's his (twisted) way of protecting Eve. He honestly doesn't have the first idea of what Eve and Ian have been through together (as he's been so isolated from her and the rest of PC for a long time) and in all due respect Chris is not the skirt chasing teen stalking pervert that TPTB have made him to be since they started this new telenovel format. Chris and Eve are truly friends and they've had a friendship that has exceeded the duration of every one of her relationships. There are countless times that TPTB forget to reflect upon where Chris has been the only person who's stood by Eve and while he may be a selfish bastard for a lack of a better term, he has always, always put her first (except for that stupid CR position which was a very sad, pathetic plot device to isolate Chris from Eve in an attempt to skew her character in another direction from him, but that's another issue). None the less when Eve was suspected of being the GHK, Chris burned the shrine in her room when he feared it could implicate her, he went to jail for her, hid the truth about her child when she asked him to, thus risking his career in an attempt to protect her, he stood by her when the rest of the town hated her, he gave her a place to stay time and time again, he even risked his own wife's release due to allowing Eve to live with him again during her 'fake breakup' with Kevin. Chris has always, always put Eve first except in that rare instance of the CR position which as I said was a sad, pathetic plot device to keep Eve and Chris isolated from one another. In my opinion Chris Ramsey knows Eve more than anyone on the show (yes even Ian though he's her soulmate) and he's doing what he feels is best for her. Yes, he is being slightly selfish, but let's face it, the man has been in love with her since practically the beginning of PC and we never saw any resolution there. Speaking from the POV of a long time C&E fan, I'll admit that I was a little more than miffed that Ian became the love of Eve's life because I'd waited nearly four years for Chris and Eve to finally get together. However, as I realize Ian and Eve are soulmates according to TPTB and yes, I wish them the best of luck and happiness as is allowed for a soap couple, however I do believe in the Chris and Eve friendship and I find a lot of viewers are slamming the character but in his heart he feels he's doing the right thing.  He stood back saying nothing  when Eve followed her heart to Kevin and he watched as she fell, but this time he's taking an active step to try to keep her heart from despair.  Is he wrong?  Maybe...is he trying to hurt Eve?  Not intentionally as he in his heart believes he's doing what's best for her.  Obviously some will feel it's not, but keep in mind that this is Chris Ramsey the man who has loved Eve from afar for a great many years and now he sees the chance to give Eve the world, little does he know that she may be even further out of his reach than anticipated.

Is the Eve and Chris friendship over?  Some would say so, but in another light perhaps this is just another challenge of time and space that these two will endure on the road back to one another.  Friendship is forever especially when the ties run as strong as theirs did.  While things might be distant between them now, there's always hope.  Just remember the magic and keep believing in the power of friendship as in soaps everything usually turns around full circle one way or the other.
