Mental and Physcological Abuse
Mental/Pyschological Abuse is abuse towards a child that is not physical. These types of abuses are classofied as:
- Verbal Abuse
- Emotional Abuse
- Neglect
- Calling a child: "Stupid"
- "Mistake"
- "Ugly"
It is easy to adapt to verbal abuse. Children get so use to be the treatment that they forget that is wrong. Sometimes children adapt to it so well, that they find themselves treating others this way, which is not right. Sometimes the verbal abuser does not realize that are being abusive. Some of this can be catergorized as slang, and habits that grew with the abuser.
Verbal abuse can also come with frustration towards the child. A lto of poeple make the mistake of yelling at there child. But one has think, how would they feel if they were that child in that position. I mean imagine... soemone yelling at you because you accidentelly broke a dish, or yo don't know how to do a problem on your homework...you're thinking...it's not my fault...I didn't know!
This makes a child scared of there guradian. They would not want to interact with ther guardian because you have put that fear in them. Communication is the best way to interact with a child. When you find yourslef verbally abusing your child...STOP!
Say sorry and say it a different way. This way your child will no that you were sorry and they will also get the point that you mean business.
