WHAT IS JUNIOR FAIR?

All the activities at the annual Cuyahoga County Fair that involve youth and youth groups fall under the leadership of the Junior Fair Department. Some of the groups include diverse 4-H Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts of all ages, Campfire Boys and Girls Clubs, and other City Recreation Centers in our community. Open Classes are those entries placed in the Fair by youth 19 Years of age or younger who are not necessarily associated with a participating youth group as described above. This section of the Junior Fair has been growing by leaps and bounds. Over 90 classes include everything from caricatures made from fruits and vegetables to a display made from building blocks. Try your luck in our Bake-Off, and see your favorite dessert entry auctioned off to help support our programs. The Cuyahoga County Agricultural Society has been responsible for conducting the County Fair for public education and entertainment purposes for over 95 years. One of the 21 directors elected by the membership is appointed by the Board to oversee the Junior Fair Department. Beginning in October, the Junior Fair Board organizes activities, meets monthly, and plans the numerous contests and special projects that culminate in the spectacular weeklong event traditionally held in August.

***HOW TO EXHIBIT AT THE FAIR***

Youth and Adults need to pick up a premium book/catalog either at their local public library, the Fair Office in June, or request one to be mailed by calling the Office at 440-243-0090 or by visiting their website at www.cuyfair.com. Junior Fair exhibitors do not pay any entry fee. Use the special entry form found in the book. Mail or hand deliver the completed form, observing the deadline date. Put the finishing touches on your entries and bring them to the Junior Fair Building on the Friday or Saturday prior to the opening of the Fair. They will be judged by a qualified panel, which will award ribbons and cash prizes for the best crafts and projects.

***CAN I JOIN THE JUNIOR FAIR BOARD? ***

All youths who have exhibited or plan to exhibit at the Fair are invited to become active members of the Junior Fair Board. You need not to be a member of a group involved in the fair. Interest, ideas and a willingness to lend a hand are all that are needed to become a member of the Board. Parents and other adults are encouraged to attend the meetings, too. Sign up during fair week at the Junior Fair Building. The meetings are held at the Fairgrounds. Call 440-243-0090 for more information.
