  WED    6.24.98         still feeling pain

I still woke up with sore knees.   I keep wondering when the pain in my right knee will go away.   Now my left knee is feeling sore due to the fact that I've put more weight on that knee to alleviate pressure on the right.   And tonight's our first gig in San Diego,  after the tour in San Fransisco.

My two boys started swimming lessons today.   I felt relieved that they're back to swimming lessons again.   They have a private swim teacher,  so the 2 on 1 interaction should benefit a lot.

The gig at Schooner's tonight wasn't too bad.   I still felt exhausted from our SF tour,  and I was surprised I still had the energy to muster up another adequate performance.   I realized that our performances in SF were pretty successful musically.   The band has a lot to be proud of,  and we impressed the swing scene there,  judging by the email Jamie has received this week.   The San Fransisco swing scene definitely wants us back soon,  but we are book solid until November so it looks as though we won't get back to the Bay Area until later in the year.

I wasn't too impressed with my solo on Sing, Sing, Sing tonight.   I'm getting to the point where it's difficult to keep it all fresh.   I guess that's the challenge of it,  right?   I think the secret to keeping things fresh is to maintain a different approach to the same musical work every time.   I think that's the challenge.   Now I understand what the big name bands go through when they go on tour.   The challenge is to make it all seem fun yet maintain the musical level required.   And we all have to be showmen,  after all,  it is entertainment.

I was happy with the large turnout at Schooner's tonight.   It looks like all the regular,  dedicated swing and lindy hop dancers were here tonight.   Were they glad we were back?   I don't know...   but I know I'm glad to be back in San Diego,  and I'm glad they all showed up!   Thanks everyone for the support.
