Camp Mini Ha Ha `09 Miniature Project

My name is Samm Brockhurst. I have been involved in Miniatures for over 30 years and have been teaching and designing room boxes for close to 20 years.

My job as Project Leader/Teacher is to help you realize your vision of “Your Store” --- there will be tools available and people to help you use them -- there will plenty of exchanges of ideas about how to achieve a certain look or style --- there will be “mini” workshops of different techniques of finishing and aging and discussions about chocolate and other important things.

I attended Camp last year and know that although the picture of the project is my prototype --- that it is not how it will end up. (Well, in the first place --- It will have a door).  We will all start in the same place with the same pieces but we will each end up with a personalized project, be it contemporary, shabby chic, ancient, aged or a brand-new ready-for-opening-day store.

One of the ideas when designing this project was that when finished it would fit inside of a "Banker's Box", so it will be easy to pack up to get it home.

The store will be built of Gatorboard and Basswood.

It will be approximately 14 inches wide by 11 inches tall (at the front) and 10 inches deep.   There will be an acrylic top inset in a wooden frame so that the interior does not require lighting and will not get dusty.  The interior will be accessible via the top as well as through the removable front.   We will be scratch building the window and the door.  The front façade will be built up of various applied mouldings and trim.

You will need to supply your own flooring, and wallpaper as well as something to cover the exterior.  We will have some wallpaper available and I usually cover the outside of the box with either wallpaper or fabric.  We will also have a few ideas and techniques for different types of flooring.
