Camp
Mini Ha Ha is an annual miniaturist retreat for women,
held since 2001. The camp is a non-profit event,
bringing together miniaturists at every level of
experience, from beginner to expert to teacher, and is
designed to promote sharing while learning and having a
whole lot of fun. Our teachers come from near and far,
and campers from all over the world are welcome. Camp
Mini Ha Ha is a community and cooperative event –
everyone is involved and everyone helps out in making
Camp the wonderful experience it has become.
Camp
takes place from September 24th – 29th 2009, at the
Annapolis Basin Conference Centre in Cornwallis, Nova
Scotia. The Conference Centre provides a peaceful
environment in which to escape from the "everyday" and
totally immerse yourself in miniatures. The facilities
include dormitory style accommodations with shared rooms
(twin beds) and a shared bath in the room, or a private
room (two twin beds) with a private bath. Camp Mini Ha
Ha offers a unique experience different from miniature
events typically held in hotel type settings. Our venue
supports the cooperative and creative spirit of Camp
Mini Ha Ha.
Camp
Mini Ha Ha is structured around a single workshop, which
begins bright and early Friday morning and continues
through the next four days allowing campers to work,
laugh and learn together. In addition to your main
project, there are usually some smaller projects to do
as well. The minor projects are designed to work on the
same theme as the main project so that they come
together into one miniature setting.
In addition to the workshop, there are gifts galore, and
workspaces available 24 hours a day, to accommodate
night owls and early birds.
If
you are coming from outside the province or outside of
Canada you might want to consider extending your stay
and make your own arrangements to come to the region
early or stay a little longer. And (grin), we'll even
send you a Nova Scotia Doers and Dreamers guide once you
register to help you with your planning. But don't
worry, if you can't come early, or stay later, Sunday
afternoon is free time when you can explore the area.
Whether it's beachcombing, antiquing or whale watching,
you get to choose. If you do not wish to have a Nova
Scotia Travel Guide sent to you (free of charge), please
mention this as a special request on registration form.
Camp 2009 begins on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 6:00
pm and ends Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 11:00 am.
The
$475.00 contribution per camper covers the costs of the
project instruction and basic materials, five nights
shared accommodation and most meals. Camp Mini Ha Ha
will provide breakfast, lunch and supper plus morning
and afternoon snacks every day except Sunday (when you
will be responsible for your own lunch and supper).
Evening snacks are a Camp Mini Ha Ha tradition for which
campers are responsible. So bring some of your
favourites or visit the local grocery store once you’ve
arrived at Camp. There will never be any shortage of
food or snacks the way everyone shares!
After
classes are over for the day, the fun begins! We chat,
play games, go for walks or dips in the pool or whatever
you choose. There is lots of space to be creative and
to enjoy the evening. Check out the Cornwallis Centre’s
website for more information on what the location has to
offer. |
