Make
"We Wish You a Merry Christmas" sing a long book. But
wait...this book has a twist. Each child made page has these words at the
top:
"We __ish
you a __erry Christmas, We __ish you a __erry Christmas, We __ish you a
__erry Christmas, and a Happy New Year." Let each child pick a consonant
out of a box wrapped like a present and fill in each blank with that letter.
Of course this makes a silly verse of the song. After the student fills
in the blanks and illustrates the page with a Christmas picture, have him/her
share with the class. The children really get cracked up when reading this
book. Click below for the "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" reproducible
page.

Holiday
Riddles - My students LOVE jokes and riddles. I created a reproducible
with Christmas riddles. I read them the riddle in the box, we pause a minute
to think about the answer, and then we all state the answer. The students
draw a picture of the answer and label it with invented spelling. For a
copy of the Christmas Riddles sheet click below.

25, you'll find "A Sneaky Snitch." Students listen to a question about
the story and color one of two pictures on an ornament that answers the
question. There are 6 ornaments/6 questions. I recorded the questions
on tape for students to do this activity in the listening center. Here
are the questions to ask during activity or to record on tape:
1. Where
does the Grinch live? (in a cave)
2. What
kind of pet does the Grinch have? (a dog)
3. How does
the Grinch travel? (by a sleigh)
4. Who sees
the Grinch steal a Christmas tree? (a girl)
5. What
is the last thing the Grinch takes from the first house? (a log)
6. Who is
the Grinch pretending to be? (Santa)

Who
will you give a gift to? This reproducible includes four presents with
a gift tag attached. The student writes someone's name he/she would like
to give a gift to, draws a picture of the gift inside the box, and labels
with invented spelling. Click below for a reproducible.
Who Will You Give a Gift to ?
Create
gift tags with recognizable characters on them, such as Spiderman, Pokemon,
Arthur, George Bush, Britney Spears, Red Riding Hood, etc... Students choose
one gift tag and write what that person/character would like for Christmas.
My students really enjoy this. They often want to do more than one. Click
below for the reproducible that students record their answer on.

Make
some easy holiday books for your students using festive holiday stickers.
I have made many of these, because the students fight over them. One of
the books I made was I See Snowflakes. It starts by saying, "I see five
snowflakes." There are five snowflake stickers on that page. I continue
with different numbers of snowflakes on each page, but not in numerical
order. You can also make sticker books that emphasize colors. An example,
"I see a red
Santa., I see a blue
present,
etc..
