Web Site of the Month

In March 2002, the Web Site of the Month, is the University of Connecticut: University Libraries page. In particular, we are focussing on the Web Site Evaluation Tools and Links page.

The sites are evaluated according to our five (5) criteria:

Site of the Month Screenshot

Content

  • This site is targetted at academics. This is clear by the location of the site (within an University Library site) and by a quick survey of the links.
  • Refreshingly free of advertising and no obvious bias

Credibility

  • All links very clearly site their source (many are academic - credible)
  • There are no spelling or grammatical errors

Currency

  • The site was last updated in September of 1998
  • Regular updating is not taking place

Design

  • The page is simply and clearly laid out
  • The previous links turn to a blue colour - similar, but not the same as the hypertext standard -which could be confusing for a repeat visitor

Access

  • The site is stable in both MS Outlook and NetscapeNavigator
  • All Web Site links are active and were last updated prior to October in 2001 - (that is the copyright year for the site also)
  • The site is consistent and stable
  • Each page is clearly identified
  • The loading time is acceptable

Overall Ranking: This site combines all the elements of design, content and credibility to form a convincing and useful Web Site for academics. It lacks in currency, however, with a full thrid of the link inactive.

The site ranks above average overall.
