James and Mary Ellen



James Wanlass Dixon came to the USA in c 1867, encouraged by his Uncle John/Robert? Wanlass. They exchanged the Great Northern Coal Fields of Durham County for the coal fields near Caseyville, Ill.
James married Mary Ellen (Evans-Thompson) in 1869.
Eleven children born to this union:
Robert John Dixon was born July 5, 1870 in the Caseyville area;
Ellen (Dixon) Schlosser was born in August of 1872 in the mining town of Confidence, Il.;
Archibald Dixon was born on March 20, 1875 in Shotton, England. He was named for his grandfather, who died in 1874. The family had returned to England;
Mary Ann (Dixon) Bosley was born November 5, 1877, also at Shotton;
Elizabeth (Dixon) Goetz was born September 24, 1879 in Haswell. Her brother Robert was now 9 and helped his father in the mine, separating coal from rocks in the tipple. The family then returned to the Belleville, Ill. area;
Genevieve "Jennie" Dixon was born February 4, 1883 at Abbey Mines, Il., and died at the age of 17, on December 3, 1900, in Belleville, Ill. She never married and had no children.;
William Dixon, born in Belleville in 1885, died April 30, 1886;
Aaron "Ben?" Dixon was born August 4, 1887. As a young man, he was best man at the Wedding of his sister, Sarah and William Nieman, September 12, 1908. Sarah Mary Evans (Dixon) Nieman was born September 4, 1889 in Belleville.
James Wanlass Dixon, Jr. was born February 4, 1892 and died June 17 of that year;
Adlai Stevenson Dixon was born on March 3, 1893 in Belleville;

Jennie Dixon died at age 17 on December 3,1900.
James Wanlass Dixon died on January 25, 1904.
Mary Ellen died of cancer on May 3, 1912.
Aaron "Ben" drowned in Cahokia Creek, March 31, 1912, shortly after his mother.

Mae Antoinette (Dixon)/Mrs Oswald Williams was born on June 1, 1895.
Arthur George John Dixon was born on June 13, 1897.
Their mother, Wilhelmina, born on April 20, 1874, died on May 16, 1900, at the age of 26 years and 26 days.
Robert John Dixon died on January 21, 1934, and is buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois.
Arthur Dixon died February 19, 1985.
They were buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois

Mae and Os

Mae Antoinette Dixon married Oswald Howell Williams on July 26, 1919;
Two children born to this union:

Robert George Williams was born in January 16, 1921;
James Havard Williams, Sr. was born on February 18, 1931;
Oswald worked as a steel roller and safety engineer at Granite City Steel Co. and later was superintendant of Parks and Recreation in Granite City. When he retired he moved to Santa Ana, CA, where he died on April 12, 1965.
Mae Dixon died September 16, 1987. They are buried in Fairhaven Cemetery, Santa Ana Ca.

Arthur and Dorothy

Arthur George John Dixon married Dorothy Jane (McConnell) on June 16, 1928.
Two children born to their union:
David Arthur Dixon was born on January 18, 1931.
Diana (Dixon) Rothert was born on March 3, 1938. She married Hans Rothert and now has children and grandchildren. Diana and Hans lived at Bainbridge Island, Tacoma, Washington.
Arthur was the President and CEO of Modine Manufacuring, and lived with his family in Racine, Wisconsin. He is listed in Who's Who in America.
Modine manufactured radiators and heaters for automobiles.

David and Edith

David Dixon married Edith "Edie" A. (Lahoman) in 1959. Robert Lee Dixon was born on August 13, 1960.
David George Dixon was born on January 2, 1962.
Jonathan Lahoman Dixon was born on October 9, 1967.
Their mother, Edith, had a brain hemmhorage and died at the age of 39.

David and Linda

David Dixon worked as an engineer and developed a process for preserving foods and was Chairman of the Board of Food Source, Inc. He was married a second time to Dr. Linda Harsh, a skilled anaesthesiologist and surgeon.
Linda had a boy and a girl by her previous marriage.
She and David raised five children together.
David was a scientist and a pioneer in Hydroponics. An article about his discoveries appeared in Life magazine.
David died in 1998.


Ellen and George



Ellen Dixon married George Schlosser in 189_. (George's sister, Wilhelmina, married Robert Dixon in 1894).
Ellen and George had a son, Robert George Schlosser who married Elsie. Their daughter, Ellen Mae (Schlosser) married Charles Crane Winning. Two Winning children were born to their union.
Margaret (Schlosser) married Joe Gerold and had a son, Brian Gerold.

Ellen died November 23, 1940 and is buried at Belleville, Illinois.

Adlai Stevenson Dixon married Matilda (Kopp) Groetz on April 25, 1916, in Carlinville, Il. Tillie had a brother, William A Kopp and a sister, Bertha (Kopp) who married Don Strauss.
Tillie's first marriage was to ____ Groetz.
They had a daughter, Dorothy Groetz-Dixon.
Together, Adlai and Tillie sired one son:
Adlai R. Dixon, Jr.
Tillie and Adlai raised these two and also helped to raise a boy named Oliver H. Brown.

Adlai R. Dixon Jr. married Roberta Weigman who was called "Bobbie."
