Comment: I am Mark Flood, eldest son of Sam Flood from Belleville, IL. and grandson of Clifford. I am interested in any genealogy info you may have.
In 1982, Sam was elected assessor of Saint Clair County, defeating Republican,
Randy Carron, by 18,000 votes.
He ran unopposed for re-election in 1989. He attended SIU Edwardsville in
1959, when his father, Clifford,
died. Sam was on the State of Illinois Police Force from 1963-66.
In 1966 he became director of St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Home, which housed children waiting for adoption, as well as offenders. Sam and Jeanie and three of their children lived on the grounds.
In the Spring of 1970, he ran for Sheriff, and when he lost the election, he became a salesman at Bo Beuckmann Ford in Collinsville. In 1978 he won election to a four-year term on the County Board of Review.
