The Cathedral School of La Naval, the first private-sectarian institution in the whole of Biliran, has earned its reputation of producing fine sets of students ever since it was founded in the year 1990 by Msgr. Filomeno G. Bactol, D.D., Bishop of Naval in the year 1990- present.
Its aim is to give a Christian Education to the Navalenos, Over the years, it grew up into a community. Bringing the CSN to the community has changed the perception that CSN is only for the elite; it has proven its worth and has become a pillar of excellence.
Naval Institute of technology
For almost a decade, Naval High had to struggle through financial burdens until a bill was introduced by the late Congressman Marcelino Veloso, which became a law in June 1965, converting it into a chartered state college. The change of status put the new college under national funding, something which greatly alleviated its shaky foundation.
Republic Act 4309 converted Naval High to Naval Institute of Technology(NIT). This came with the provision that "vocational and engineering courses be offered in the collegiate level" (Vero,1981). Operations under national funding began in 1974, through the efforts of its President, Mr. Alfredo C. Josep.
The only college in Biliran Province. NIT (as the school now fondly called) under the dynamic leadership of 3rd NIT President, Dr. Esperanza D. Pajo now stands to serve the Biliranons and their next-door neighbors by way of instruction so to prepare their young men and their next door neighbors by way of instruction so to prepare their young men and women and equip them with effective educational and technological skills to enter into professional, industrial, domestic of other worthwhile occupations and to become good and productive citizens and trustworthy leaders for Philippine progress- in response to government of " people empowerment" and " global competitivesness". In envisions to become " the center of excellence and an effective partner in the development of Biliran and Northwestern Leyte in technological and maritime fields."
The college campus covers an area of 7 hectares, containing ten permanent building which house the offices, classrooms, ships, clinics, centers-including the library, a computer room, a multi purpose gymnasium, and a multi-purpose hostel. The open spaces serve well as a sports comlex and a grounds for green revolution and food production projects.
