California's Route 125

Route 125 is from Route 75 near Brown Field to Route 56 passing near La Mesa. {CS&HC Sec. 425. 1964}

Route 125 is from:

  • (a) Route 905 near Brown Field to Route 54.
  • (b) Route 54 to Route 94 near La Mesa.
  • (c) Route 94 near La Mesa to Route 56. [CS&HC Sec. 425]

    Status

    Portion (a), after 15 years of political and environmental hurdles, is under construction and is expected to be a toll road. The Macquarie Infrastructure Group from Australia will finance the construction and build the tollway. Route 125 is Macquarie's first foray into the United States, after finding success in building and operating toll roads in Australia and Europe. The toll road will initially have 4 lanes, with the provision to have 6 to 8 lanes in the future. Construction should finish by fall 2006. For more information, visit the official private/public partnership website.

    Portion (c) is unconstructed from Route 52 to Route 56.

    There are even plans to extend this route all the way to Route 10 near San Bernardino.

    Notes

    From Daniel Faigin: "When heading southbound on Route 125 thru the Route 94/Route125 interchange, you have to exit far right to 'stay' on Route 125, as the freeway maintains its legacy of the 'thru' direction being onto westbound Route 94. Thanks to Steve Pederson for this update!"
