No shortcuts

This is the name given to a report written by traffic campaigners from several local villages who found that who identified other villages in England and Wales with comparable problems caused by inappropriate volumes and types of traffic.

Following extensive discussion with local authorities and police forces who tried out imaginative and innovative alternative approaches, the 'No Shortcuts' report gives detailed recommendations for an experimental 7.5tonne weight limit to be imposed on several local roads which suffer from out-of-area HGVs that use local villages as a shortcut between the south coast and the M5.

However, Avon and Somerset Police rejected the proposals as unworkable and the Government Office of the South West have indicated that they are completely opposed to any change in the freight network.
