The gravestone reads : "In Loving Memory of Rachel the dearly beloved wife of Richard V. Birch, who passed away January 28th 1922, aged 59 years. Peace Perfect Peace.

Also Richard Varrier, husband of the above. Died Dec. 8th 1935, aged 82 years. Asleep in Jesus."

St. Peter's Church, Monks Horton is a difficult to locate church being situated off all main roads and having become separated from the tiny village of Monks Horton, which is itself, on minor roads. It can be reached, by travelling through the village of Sellindge on the A20, and keeping a wary eye for a sign off to Monks Horton School. The church is in the countryside and faces onto a farm.

I was very puzzled at this oddly named church until I saw a television programme which explained that Cosmos & Damian were two medieval, medical monks, who became famous, for their treatment of the sick.
