E-mu<>Ensoniq
News / Site Updates June
3, 2000 ~ Lots of news & updates this
month. E-mu<>Ensoniq
has released the latest PARIS software,
version
OS 2.1,
as a public beta in both PC and Macintosh
formats. No
word on on the latest ASR-X Pro software, version
4, although it is rumored to be in a nonpublic
beta. Transoniq
Hacker has finally discontinued their primary
support page. The Back
Issues Index
is still online as of this update. SoUnDEnGiNe.com
has released a commercial bank of sounds for the
Ensoniq FIZMO: FIZMO
World #1 by Craig
Snoke.
Check out Ugo's FIZMO
User Group
- there's been a flurry of updates as of
late. There
is a new Ensoniq MR/ZR Mailing list at
eGroups.
I've created an Index of E-mu<>Ensoniq
Mailing Lists on the ASR-X Pro Links
page with this and other related URLs. zach
ary
of the ASR-X Mailing list has provided a new ASR-X
specific Environment for Emagic Logic users. This
Environment includes a layer for saving and
recalling effects presets. I'm certain it will
prove as useful as the ASR-X OMS Patch Names
document zach ary provided some months ago. Both
are available from the ASR-X Pro Downloads
page. I've
added a new bank of ASR-X 1-SOUNDS to the
Downloads
page: a pair of RAM-kits constructed from some Korg
T3 drum samples. Enjoy! New
E-mu<>Ensoniq Online Shopping May
24, 2000 ~ E-mu<>Ensoniq have launched a new,
and improved, Online
Shopping
page for Sounds, Accessories, and Manuals (online
PDF manuals remain available for free download.). A
number of recent Ensoniq Instruments are featured
including the good old ASR-X Pro! Prices
on the Ensoniq X-Audio Series have been reduced
from $49.95 to $20 (Volume 1 of this series was
previously bundled with the ASR-X Pro sampler -
it's unknown to me whether this has changed.)
Prices on the EXP series expansion cards remain
unchanged - you're probably better off buying them
retail or on the 2nd hand market. John
Dougherty of Outside
Systems
(and the ASR-X Mailing List) pointed
out: "If
anyone plans on buying any of those CDR's, you
might want to make sure that they are specifically
designed with the X in mind. Remember, the X isn't
perfect when it comes to loading EPS/ASR-10 sound
libraries." This
is true so an email to the E-mu Sales staff may be
in order prior to buying a CDR series CD-ROM. Or
buy a copy of X-Tools from RCS. Obviously Audio CDs
won't be an issue ;-) New
E-mu<>Ensoniq ASR Workstation? May
6, 2000 ~ The following post was made to the
SQ80
Mailing list
this past week and forwarded to the ASR-X Mailing
List in the edited form presented here. I've
emailed [email protected]
requesting confirmation. From:
"DiGiTaL RoBeRt" Do
you have plans to produce anything past the
ZR-76? E-MU's
response: We
plan on introducing a new ENSONIQ sampling
keyboard/workstation, the updated successor to the
ASR-10, later in the year. Thanks for your interest
in Ensoniq products. Regards, Other
recent gossip includes such weighty topics
as: In
regards to the latter, I've had fair success using
a Zip drive as my primary storage for ASR-X files.
This comes as something of a surprise to me. As far
as OS 4.0 is concerned - well, that's a let down. I
suspect OS 4 is a conspicuous victim of last years
corporate merger of E-mu and Ensoniq. However, the
news of an ASR series workstation is intriguing!
Guess we'll have to wait until Summer NAMM 2000 for
product specifications. So

/ Ensoniq Support Update April
22, 2000 ~ Emu/Ensoniq has announced that effective
April 15th, 2000 they will no longer be providing
service or repair parts on products such as the SD1
series, DP/4, SQ2 series, and MR-Racks, and no
orders for parts will be accepted. (Verified with
E-mu<>Ensoniq Technical Support.) E-mu
/ Ensoniq MSRP Increases April
22, 2000 ~ Emu<>Ensoniq has raised prices on
several of their samplers & modules as well as
the Paris system & peripherals. (Verified with
E-mu<>Ensoniq Technical Support - no details
as to which 'samplers & modules'.) JDLX-Musique.com
Site Updates April
1, 2000 ~ With the completion of the recent site
overhaul here at JDLX-Musique.com I'm please to be
able to introduce some new features regarding the
Ensoniq ASR-X Pro. First
of all, I've reproduced a number of ASR-X/Pro
specific articles
from the pages of Transoniq
Hacker.
These articles appear with the kind permission of
Transoniq Hacker.
Astute
Transoniq Hacker readers may notice the absence of
articles written by Garth Hjelte of Chicken
Systems. That's because 99.9% of the material
already appears at the ASR-X Jumpstation,
FAQ,
and Chicken
Systems
proper. Enjoy! The
Tips & Tricks Section has been reorganized to
point you towards additional ASR-X Tutorial and
Samplers & Sampling articles. Some of the
articles themselves have been updated to make them
current. The downloads page now includes an
improved selection - primarily for Macintosh
computers but not entirely. Make certain to check
out WizCalc (formerly ProdCalc for Mac) - now for
PC too - at the Wizoo site. Ensoniq
Product Lines Back On Track March
6, 2000 ~ E-mu / Ensoniq published a
press
release
dated February 3, 2000 announcing the Ensoniq
product lines were back in production. In addition,
software support would resume with the release of
OS 2.1 for the Paris DAW and the long awaited OS
v4.0 for the ASR-X Pro tabletop sampler. It appears
the well regarded ZR-76 Keyboard Workstation also
remains in the product line. Rubber
Chicken Software Announces New ASR-X
Tools March
2, 2000 ~ Rubber Chicken Software has announced a
new revision of ASR-X Tools to be distributed on
March 8, 2000. The new version will be available
from RCS as a demo and may include a limited number
of 'freeware' functions - such as file repair,
editing/resizing ASR-X AIFF's, splitting .wav/AIFF
for loading via floppy, and more - as requested by
ASR-X Users (members of the ASR-X Mailing List at
eGroups.com). Per
RCS: "The ASR-X is very limited when it comes to
sound-editing, at least from the front panel. For
full editing, get ASR-X Tools - it enables you to
edit your sounds direct to disk, or via
system-exclusive commands. Build your own sounds
from scratch, and even translate EPS or ASR-10
sounds into native ASR-X format. Extensive hard
drive utilities will be available too - translate
your whole EPS/ASR-10 hard drive in one stroke! You
can even translate whole EPS/ASR-10
CD-ROM's." For
more information see the ASR-X
Page
at RCS. Also available from RCS is Translator
"Converts most popular disk and file sound formats
from one another." Ensoniq
Avista 7600 Holiday Special December
1999 ~ E-mu / Ensoniq have announced a Factory
Direct special
on the Avista 7600 Keyboard at $599. Considering
the Avista 7600 has been available from a number of
large retailers for prices near - or below - the
advertised special I'd hazard a guess that the
Avista 7600 has been discontinued. E-mu
/ Ensoniq Release Version 2 Paris DAW
Software November
1999 ~ E-mu / Ensoniq have released
Version
2.0
software for the Paris Digital Audio Workstation
for Macintosh and Windows. In
related news, a September 1999 Press
Release
announces a Development Agreement between
Intelligent Devices and E-mu / Ensoniq to ensure
ongoing development of the platform. Closeout
Special on Ensoniq Sound Sets November
1999 ~ EMU/ENSONIQ is advertising a
closeout
on old Ensoniq sound sets for the MIRAGE/EPS/ASR
samplers as well as the SQ/KS/VFX/TS synthesizers.
Pretty attractive pricing if you're so
inclined. New
E-mu / Ensoniq Website October
1999 ~ Big changes at the 'old' Ensoniq website as
well as the 'new' EMU/ENSONIQ website. It appears
the Ensoniq site is now orientated towards
directing users of Ensoniq/Creative Labs Sound
Cards, along with users of Ensoniq Musical
Instruments, to the appropriate support
services. The
new EMU/ENSONIQ website contains all the requisite
product information, announcements, online sales,
and service information you would expect. Although
the organization of the new site leaves something
to be desired, it's easy enough to navigate and
most of the items you'd expect have been ported
over from the old sites - plus a few surprises!
Notice the availability of select product manuals
in PDF format. This is a nice touch,
IMO. Ensoniq
ASR-X Pro OS 4: No ETA September
1999 ~ I recently sent an inquiry to Ensoniq
Musical Instruments Support and received a prompt
and courteous reply that OS 4.xx was still planned
but that there was no E.T.A. Maybe we'll hear
something new at the Fall '99 AES Convention or the
Winter NAMM 2000. That's typically when such things
are announced. E-mu
/ Ensoniq Corporate Merger July
1999 ~ To the chagrin of ASR-X and ASR-X Pro users
alike, Ensoniq appears to have fallen victim to the
corporate
merger
of EMU/ENSONIQ
under the auspicious view of Creative Technology,
Ltd. Word has it that OS 2.67 for the original
ASR-X will be the final operating system update for
that model. To those who came before us - I salute
you. Meanwhile, those of us who purchased the ASR-X
Pro with our eyes on the Flash ROM feature (for
downloadable OS upgrades) were excited to learn of
OS
4.0 specifically
for the ASR-X Pro. That was in January 1999. In
July '99 we're still waiting for word that OS 4.0
will actually appear. It
is my hope that the rumors are true and that demand
for the ASR-X Pro is high. That might lead to the
inevitable release of OS 4.xx with further bug
fixes and enhancements. Keep your fingers
crossed! |
