2002 ASL Club Events

September 14th: The ASL Club planned to manage activities for the kids attending WSAD/NSAD Tournament Day (WSAD/West Suburban Assn of the Deaf and NSAD/National Softball Association of the Deaf). Volunteers were recruited to help with light duties in several areas, including swingset, volleyball and kick ball; possibly crafts, maybe a game. There was a Deaf clown from 11am to 1pm. The program ran from 11am to 4pm at the Elgin Sports Complex. Feel free to check the following website for further information: http://www.wsadeaf.org/nsadinfo.htm

July 2: Harper College's Student Activities and Program Board were thrilled to present two shows with Michael Shwedick, bringing REPTILE WORLD for the nineth time. Shwedick brought a wide variety of reptiles, including several snakes, a turtle, a crocodile, an alligator, and an iguana. This was a very informative program on the lives of these animals, fascinating for both children and parents alike. An interpreter was provided and ASL Club students assisted in ushering.

June 24: Movie "A Beautiful Mind" open captioned, for free in J-143 (338-seats, air conditioned theatre) at Harper College.

June 23: ASL Club presented a Ceramics Art Day for Deaf/HH/KODA Kids (and their families) at Clayground Creative Center in Mount Prospect, IL. Children had the opportunity to work on pottery wheels, freehand sculpt clay, paint pre-casted ceramic sculptures, and learn mold pouring. ASL Club students were available to assist children in their craftwork and snacks were provided. In addition, ASL Club was able to defray the cost by paying $5 per child.

June 18: Movie "Harry Potter" open captioned, for free in J-143 (338-seats, air conditioned theatre) at Harper College.
