National Association of the Deaf

NAD's website (http://www.nad.org/) is a superb resource for both a new person to Deaf World and a person who has been involved with D/deaf, HoH and/or KODA people for a longer timeframe. From their website: "The National Association of the Deaf (NAD), established in 1880, is the oldest and largest constituency organization safeguarding the accessibility and civil rights of 28 million deaf and hard of hearing Americans in education, employment, health care, and telecommunications."

Deaf Women United

DWU's website (http://www.dwu.org/): "As part of our mission to encourage networking and empowering, DWU is deeply committed to other organizations that are supportive of us. DWU believes in having a strong relationship with Deaf women to build bridges by spreading unique knowledge and information involving deaf women issues." Women taking ASL classes have found membership with this organization to be helpful in increasing Deaf Culture knowledge and ASL skills.

Gallaudet University

In Washington D.C., Gallaudet (http://www.gallaudet.edu/) "is the world's only university that brings together deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students as well as faculty in the common pursuit of education. The Gallaudet community lives by the tenets it explicitly states in its 'Commitment to Sign Communication'." To learn the history of 'Gally' is to more deeply understand the strengths of Deaf Community.
