Signs to Know/Teach Others Bob Paul was asked: What are the "must know" signs for non-ASL students, particularly in a host role for a lecture? Although hearing people know to use these:Welcome, deaf?, interpreter-there, bathroom, and thank you, other signs are also needed. Remember these: American Manual Alphabet, Manual Numbers, Use good facial expression and body language, Name, Sign, Fingerspell, Slow, Again, Yes/No, TTY, Police, Start/Finish, In/Out, Wait, Female/Male, Me/Mine, You/Your/Their/She/He/They, Yesterday/Today/Tomorrow/Will. |

ASL Quick Reference Michigan State University's ASL Browser web site= http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/index.htm MSU's site contains "an online American Sign Language (ASL) browser where you can look up video of thousands of ASL signs and learn interesting things about them." Click on a word in the dictionary and view ASL signs. Your computer needs to have QuickTime to view the movies. There is also a CDROM for purchase, to practice at home without an internet connection. |
