The name of this organization shall be the "American Sign Language Club."

The purpose of this organization is to offer Harper College students opportunities to use and practice American Sign Language through social get-togethers, meetings conducted in ASL, field trips, special projects, and/or community service.

There shall be two types of membership: Active and Associate. One becomes a member either by payment of dues ($5.00 every school year) or through contributions to the ASL Club of monetary value that is equal to or greater than membership dues amount.

Active members are present Harper College students. They shall have all the privileges of membership such as voting and holding office. Associate members are employees of Harper College and community residents who are sincerly interested in practicing or furthering their knowledge and use of ASL/Sign Language. They shall have all the privileges of membership except for voting and holding office. An active member becomes an associate member when no longer a Harper College student. Membership terminates when dues are not paid up-to-date.

The ASL Club will meet according to requirements decided by active club members and the club advisor. The club will meet per notice as posted throughout the Harper College campus. Five active members shall make up a quorum.

Fall 2001/Spring 2002: As many of the students of Harper's American Sign Language classes are unable to meet during the day and have commitments or classes at night, "meetings" have been held via e-mail. This allows sharing/forwarding of important notices of deaf programs. Actual ASL communication takes place via events hosted by ASL Club.
