Islinne Weyr Weyrling Games

The Weyrling Games are held during the Spring Games.

NAMETRAINING MONTHSDESCRIPTION
DOP/ DRAGONS ON PARADE
All Weyrlings (If first two months, only this event)
The dragons are well oiled and bedecked with festive fripparies, such as ribbons and such. The Weyrlings are in their Occasional Riding Leathers. The parade starts the games and takes them from the Weyrling Barracks and across the Weyrling Training field, where the rest of the Weyr is line up on stone bleachers to watch the performances.
BB/ BLINDMAN'S BAGGING
Three and Four
They are blindfolded and will have five minutes to "blindly" fill a firestone sack with as much firestone as possible. The end whistle blows, and the "judge" sorts through, only keeping the firestone that would actually be used for Threadfall. The characteristics of size, shape, and hardness are looked for. The one with the fullest bag of proper stone wins.
EDT/ ELIMINATION DRAGONTOSS
Five and Six
They are lined up in two lines facing each other and are to throw a full firestone sack to one another, down the chain. When it reaches the end, they step apart a few more meters, and start the pass again. These are twenty pound sacks, mind you, and it is basically a display of muscle and coordination. They keep getting further apart as the bag goes up and down the line. Anyone dropping the bag (which is filled with regular rock, not firestone) is eliminated, and the participants must shift around to avoid making a gap. The last one in the toss to survive "dropping the bag" wins.
DD/ DRAGON DRILLS
Seven and Eight
They display their patterns on Dragon Back... this include precision as well as intricate marching drills that were created solely for a display of skill, not practical use. This is done for show, not competition, and is performed simultaneously with the Aerial Dragon Drills and the Wing Drills. The Mass Confusion March will be performed.
ADD/ AERIAL DRAGON DRILLS
Nine and Ten
They are to perform their Dragon Drills in the air, low altitude. These involve all the drills they've been taught... but no fancy drills for this group. The idea is to display skill, not talent. The Swoop-And-Dip will be performed.
WD/ WING DRILLS
Eleven and Twelve
They perform their Dragon Drills in a formation pattern, mid-altitude. This is again for display of skill, not talent, and nothing extremely fancy will be done. The Mass Confusion Fly-By will be performed.
FEDT/ FORMATION ELIMINATION DRAGON TOSS
Thirteen and Fourteen
They will fly in a tight formation and display their Dragon Toss abilities in the air with twenty-five pound bags of regular rock. They will perform drills as well as the Toss. The formation will expand and retract as the Judge signals, therefore the pairs will not know in advance how they will have to maneuver. The last pair to catch the bag will be the winners. (The pairs are strictly instructed in advance as to the order of the toss so no-one is missed. They know everyone on the list and in order, so if someone is eliminated, they know who to throw to next.)
PAT/ PATTERNS
Fifteen
Will display their skill in aerial patterns and crossover. They have spent several months working out a unique pattern that will be displayed in the games. This is not a competitive nor an elimination sport.
FR/ FLAMING ROPES
Sixteen
Will display their skill in mock Threadfall, using silver painted ropes as Thread. They imitate everything, including Flaming and Betweening. Those hit are removed, yet this is not a competitive nor an elimination sport.
FC/ FLAMING CROSSOVER
Seventeen
Will present the patterns and crossover with painted rope, as well as doing the celebrated "Dragon Fly By" that is considered so beautiful across Pern. This is not a competitive sport nor an elimination sport.
MAR/ FLAMING CROSSOVER & MID AIR RESCUE
Eighteen
Will perform the patterns, crossover and fly by, using painted ropes and flame. A specially chosen pair will perform a diving/ injured stunt, while one or two hand-picked pairs will perform the mid-air rescue. These are the top of their Weyrling Class!
WEYRLING GRADUATION
Weyrling Graduates during the games
Patterns, Flaming Ropes, and Flaming Crossover & Recue will be performed. In this case, though, all the graduated will perform, and the top four pairs will perform the rescue. All graduating dragons and riders also perform a mini- Dragon on Parade.
