24th Australian Junior Archery Championships, Adelaide, 2002 - NEWS
Best All Round Archers & Trans Tasman Team announced
The snow and ice at the Thebarton Snowdome were a welcome relief for all
tonight. The dinner venue unfortunately left a lot to be desired,
creating a great source of embarassment for Organisers. Despite
that, the Best All Round Archers, Australian Teams Champions & the Trans
Tasman Team members were announced.

Field Champions in the heat & dust
Temperatures soared over 38 degrees on the final day of competition making the
going tough for all archers. An added insult was the mini-tornado
which ripped through tents and covered everyone with dust, just as the medals
presentations were about to be made. Despite the heat, scores posted
were commendable and everyone did enjoy the field venue.

Today's a rest day
.... but that usually means no rest as teams make the most of their visit to
SA. Archers may well have taken in the 2nd stage of the Tour Down
Under, arguably the most prestigious cycling road race in the Southern
Hemisphere. Others will no doubt would have sought to fine tune
their shooting for the forthcoming 2 days of field archery at Strathalbyn.

Under 19 Section - clarification
The Under 19 section created for these Junior Nationals is only open to those
who are eligible and hope to qualify for the
Junior World Target Championships in 2002. This means only those who
turn 18 years of age between 1st January and 13th January, 2002
- the others turning 18 in 2002 are eligible for the Junior Nationals
anyway. For the World Juniors, archers have to meet FITA's criteria
of turning 18 years of age during the year of the event, which means being 17
on 31st December, 2001, but may in fact be ineligible for the Junior Nationals
having
turned 18 before the start of the Junior Nationals.

Matchplay not an option
The Committee advises that, unfortunately the trial matchplay cannot be
held. With the Victoria Park being used for horseracing on the
Saturday
preceding the Nationals, the chance of extending the week is not
possible. Utilising the rest day on the Wednesday was considered to
be inappropriate and unfair on competitors, particularly if the week is a hot
one.
