Damage from Cars

Cars contribute a lot to the pollution going on, here are a few rules to help our environment - in your car!

Fueling your car releases gas emissions that can react to form ozone. Fueling later in the day, when temperatures are cooler and the sun has set means the emissions are less likely to react to form ozone.

[x] Drive the speed limit.

[x] Driving faster than speed limits reduces your fuel efficiency and increases the pollution your car emits.

[x] Keep your automobile in good working condition and keep the tires properly inflated.

[x] A tuned car increases your gas mileage and decreases the pollution it emits, and properly inflated tires can save up to 10% of the fuel your car would otherwise burn.

[x] Avoid jackrabbit starts and sudden stops.

[x] You can save as much as two miles per gallon by accelerating gently and anticipating the need to slow down or stop.

[x] Turn off your engine when you stop your car for a short time.

[x] An idling engine burns one-quarter to half gallon of gas per hour. It takes less energy to restart your car than to idle for one minute.
