Saved game
collection!
I
discovered VHS
Heaven saved
game collection yesterday! It's called
Memory
Card Heaven.
(Over 200 saved games!) It's only saved games
sent by other people that will allow you to get
immediately to a moment in a game. You need the
original game CD in order to use theses
cards!
Compatibility
list update!
I've made
a small update to the compatibility
list. I
would like to remind you that if you tested a
game that isn't in the list yet,
send me
your evaluation! Also, if you have time, send me
some screeshots that I don't have yet! Up to
now, I have received only one screenshot! Come
on! It's not that hard to do! Just hit
AppleKey-Shift-3 simultaneously!

Utilities page
and compatibility list updated!
I've
updated the Utilities
page. There's still not so much, but it's
getting better! Also, the compatibility
list
has been updated and reworked to be faster to
load. (The page is now under 60k even if there's
more than 300 games!) I've also checked
Connectix "Recommended
Games List"
to update UVGSCP compatibility list.
More RAM =
smoother game play?
I think
I've found something interesting in the
Connectix VGS 1.1 Update ReadMe. It is
written:
"Connectix
has found that a few PlayStation games (less
than 5% of the games tested), may perform
more smoothly if an additional 1 to 2 MB of
RAM is allocated to the CVGS application.
Titles affected include Gran Turismo and NBA
Live 99. Please note that very few games will
show any benefit from this extra
memory..."
So if you're
not satisfied with the speed of a game you may
try this trick! I would be curious to
hear
from people who really experienced a speed-up
with this trick!

Guess what?
Yeah! We've got a new message board!
I finally
registered with Server.Com
to get a new message
board!
For now, there's no ads and it seems to work
great! Please, give this new board a try!
Sales record
for VGS!
According
to PUG,
"Connectix Corporation announced more than
$3,000,000 in bookings for Version 1.1 of
Connectix Virtual Game Station in its first
three weeks." Bookings are based on period of
January 28-February 17.

The message
board again...
I hate
message boards! CGIForMe
is down for 2 or 3 weeks. I guess I'll have to
find another one! I'm actually trying to find a
place where I could host my own CGI. If you can
help me, please
tell me!
I'm sorry about this and I hope someday we'll
have a good reliable message
board!

Recommended
Games List changed?
A reader
noticed me that Connectix updated their
"Recommended
Games List"
with the arrival of 1.1 VGS upgrade. For
instance, FF7 is no longer recommended and
Tekken 3 is. I'll investigate on this and keep
you informed.
Gravis GamePad
offer
I don't
know if it's an old news or not but Connectix is
offering a 15$
coupon rebate
on the Gravis GamePad in every VGS box. If
you're interested in it, you may also
click
here to
download the coupon!
UltraHLE
I had the
opportunity to see UltraHLE at friend's house
and I must admit that it's really
impressive! Mario64 seemed to run perfectly and
was very fast! Everything was fluid and well
rendered by the 3DFX card. On the other hand,
GoldenEye and Zelda 64 were often choppy. It's
really sad that this project has been cancelled.
Maybe if Connectix wins agains't Sony it'll
change something about that!

Compatibility
list updated!
The
compatibility
list
has been updated! There's now 258 games
in the list! If you want to send your evaluation
for a game that isn't in the list,
email-me!
Do the same if you disagree with an evaluation
or if you want to send me some game
screenshots!
New VGS
site!
There's a
new VGS website called VGS
Heaven.
They are trying to get save games files and
start a collection, which would be great. They
also have a domain name... *sigh*...

The message
board has been revived!
I finally
found another message
board
provider to replace ExtremeOnline.
It's CgiForMe.
Unfortunately all the messages left on the old
message board are gone. But this one seems a lot
better and the GUI is is better! (ie.: No
frames!) I hope you'll enjoy it and that it'll
become full of messages.
Shortcut to
access UVGSCP.
I've
added two URL shortcut to get to UVGSCP.
Geocities URLs aren't easy to remember, even for
me! So now you can use http://uvgscp.cjb.net/
or http://uvgscp.is-here.net/.
Should have done this earlier!
What about
VGS?
We are
now ready for some VGS news. Connectix
won
the first round
against Sony and can continue to ship VGS during
the trial.
"Connectix
believes our pioneering emulation technology
gives consumers more choice in the hardware
they use to run popular software
applications," stated Roy McDonald, President
and CEO of Connectix Corporation. "Connectix
Virtual Game Station gives Macintosh owners
more games to choose from and PlayStation
owners more choice in where they play their
games and we will continue to fight for the
customer's right to this choice. We have
offered this type of ability successfully and
without controversy for years in the PC
emulation market and intend to defend the
consumer's right to this functionality in the
PlayStation market space as well. Early
customer response to the new Version 1.1 has
been overwhelmingly positive and we are glad
that we are going to be able to continue our
shipments to fill our enormous backlog of
orders."

VGS for Windows
is coming...
Well, it
looks like Connectix is currently working on a
PC version of VGS, according to PUG.
I don't think this is a great news for the Mac
communauty but because it's related to VGS, I
had to write it...
Informations
page updated!
I've
completed my own review
of VGS and also started a list of some cool
places where you can read other VGS reviews.
Hope you'll enjoy!
UltraHLE!
Not
really a VGS news, but it's somewhat related to.
UltraHLE is a Nintendo 64 emulator for PC
only. I haven't seen it yet and it's hard to
believe in it. It has been said that it runs the
most popular N64 games in hi-res and that it's
very fast because it uses a rather new technic
of emulation and 3dfx cards. Unfortunately, the
project has been discontinued.
Here's a few screenshots of Starfox,
Mario
64 and
Zelda
64 and
a very complete FAQ
on it... Who knows, maybe someday there will be
a Mac version! For more info on UltraHLE or the
emulation in the PC world try Emulators
Unlimited.
UVGSCP
Dying?
Is this
page dying? I've not received any email since
one week and I received only one new screenshot.
So if the compatibility
list
isn't updated, it's not my fault; it's yours!

Sony sue
Connetix!
It's no
longer a rumor, Sony sue Connectix. It's
everywhere on the net. I sent a message to Sony,
using there feedback
page,
and got this ready-made answer:
Thanks
for writing us. Sony Computer Entertainment
Inc. and Sony Computer Entertainment America
filed legal action against Connectix
Corporation on January 27, 1999.
Our
decision to pursue legal action against
Connectix Corporation was based on the belief
that the "Virtual Game Station" infringes on
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. copyrights
and intellectual property rights. Through the
release of the "Virtual Game Station," the
Connectix Corporation willfully introduced a
product into the market that circumvents the
PlayStation anti-piracy protection. This
means that this product will not only
negatively impact Sony Computer Entertainment
America hardware sales, but third party
developers and publishers of PlayStation
software could now lose sales to pirated
goods (games that are copied and distributed
without permission) as a direct result of the
"Virtual Game Station." Our involvement in
this issue underscores the active role Sony
Computer Entertainment America is taking
against videogame piracy.
The
Connectix "Virtual Game Station" does not
accurately emulate the PlayStation gaming
experience and consequently, is not fully
compatible with all PlayStation game titles,
a fact supported by Connectix own admissions.
It is important to note that this product
attempts to imitate PlayStation gaming, but
more than 17 million consumers can attest to
the fact that nothing technically can compare
to the experience delivered through the
PlayStation game console in tandem with a
home television set. (...)
PUG
have published an open
letter
to Sony. Be sure to read it and, if you agree,
sign it! San
Francisco Gate
also has an article
written by Jon Swartz.
Pre-order
VGS!
You can
now preoder VGS right there
at Connectix Software Store. It's expected that
VGS will ship week ending 5 February. This
package should include the 1.1 updater.
Connectix also re-worked the VGS
official home
page and put a picture of VGS box.
VGS updated to
1.1!
VGS has
been updated to 1.1. This version has
additionnal security to prevent the use of
pirated software and also fixes a lot of
glitches. You can get it there.

Apple will buy
Connectix?
Looks
like Apple
could be interested to buy Connectix or VGS to
prevent a possible PC version of VGS.
AppleInsider
have a complet report
on
this. This move could keep VGS and the
exclusivity of VGS on the Mac, which would be a
great asset! (Pretty
sure this sentence doesn't make sense...)

New message
board!
I've
added a new
message board!
Be sure to take a look at it! I hope you'll
enjoy it and that it'll become a great place to
exchange about VGS! If you have any problems,
please tell
me!
Desparetely
looking for screenshots!
Please,
send me screenshots of the games you're playing
with VGS! I would really appreciate it or I will
have to delete the Screenshot colum in the
compatibility list. By the way, there's now
192 games in the compatibility
list
and I think it's the most complete list that you
can found on the net!

Still
alive!
I've just
gotten back from a friend's. I've been there for
four days, so I'll try to catch up what happened
since 4 days. Forgive if I didn't reply to you
email.
The MOD
chip...
Well, I
had a lot of email from people asking where they
could get the hack or patch that allow VGS to
play backup games. Unfortunately, I can't give
it to you or tell you where you could get it
because it's not legal. So please, stop
asking me!
Second update
of the compatibility list!
I've made
another update of the compatibility list. Help
me to fill some of the many "?" in the publisher
column. Thank you to all of you for your
contribution. :)

Sony will sue
Connectix?
PUG
reported that according to IGN "Sony will sue
for intellectual rights infringement on the
illegal use of its patented game system" . Let's
all hope that it won't happen!
First update of
the compatibility list!
Yeah,
it's true! I've made the first update of the
compatibility
list.
Well, there's not so much new but with your help
it'll get even better! What I need when you want
to add a game to the compatibility list
is:
- Name of the
game. (Duh! :) )
- Publisher
of the game.
- Evaluation.
(1 is not playable, 5 is
perfect.)
- Screenshot.
(Facultative but appreciated. Max of 2
screenshots, in jpg format.)
- Some
comments. (Important if the game is playable
but have some glitch.)

First review of
VGS!
The
Playstation
Users Group
(PUG) has made the first review
of VGS and also have a list of compatible games
and incompatible games! Be sure to take a look
at it!
Compatibility
with upgrade cards...
I've
heard that VGS works very well on MaxPower G3
upgrade cards. Also, it seems that even if you
don't have an ATI graphic card, you can try to
install the ATI driver and VGS will run!
MOD chip for
VGS.
A MOD
chip is now available for VGS. For those of you
that don't know what a MOD chip is, it's a sort
of "add on" for the real PS that allow users to
play backup and imported games. Is it legal or
not? I don't know... First we would have to know
if VGS is legal or not. When asked what they
expected to hear from Sony, Connectix sources
noted that : "while their legal department will
undoubtedly posture like sharks, the fact of the
matter is that Sony *loses money* on every unit
that they make. Their money comes from the
games, and that's what we're going to sell of
more for them. The bottom line is that we're
actually *saving* them money."

Bidding to get
VGS?
John
Stiles, webmaster of emulation.net,
is auctionning off ten copies of
VGS
for the next three days. Note be a registered
member of eBay
to participate in the auction. And be sure that
you have the requirements
to run VGS!

Welcome!
Everything
is new! Visit and enjoy! If you have any
question email
me.
Post your evaluation of games to me. I may ask
you for screenshot! Oh yeah, dont email me to
tell me that my web space provider sucks.
(Unless you want to provide me some web space!)
Please don't tell me my english is horrible, I
already know that.
Getting
VGS...
Well, for
now it's not easy. The retail price is only 49$
(a real PS is about 100$) but it's only
available at MacWorld until the beginning of
February, when it should ship almost everywhere.
So we'll have to be patient!
