USS KIRK (FF-1087) I reported to USS Kirk, home ported in Yokosuka, Japan, on June 7, 1982 as an FTGSA (E-2) and was assigned to 2nd Division where I worked on the Mk 68 Gun Fire Control System. This is a system that ensures that the ship's gun is aimed in the right direction.
While onboard, we traveled to many different places to include Chinhe, South Korea; Kure, Japan; Subic Bay, Philippines; Hong Kong; Singapore; Pateya Beach, Thailand; Patong Beach, Thailand; Diego Garcia and Guam.
Some of the major operations that we were involved with were the last end of the Iranian Hostage Crisis and various other rescue and training exercises.
I left the Kirk on October 17, 1983 when I was transferred to USS Cochrane (DDG-21).
