USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG-71)

I reported to Pre-Commissioning Unit Cape St. George in Pascagoula, Mississippi on June 23, 1992 as an FC1 (E-6) and was assigned to CF Division as Leading Petty Officer and was involved with system level testing and maintenance control of the entire AEGIS Combat System.

During my time in Pascagoula, I served as a Quality Assurance Inspector during the building of the ship. I was also involved with establishing the Division administrative and maintenance programs as well as many onboard training programs.

USS Cape St. George (CG-71) was commissioned onto active naval service on June 13, 1993 in Norfolk, Virginia which became her new home port.

While onboard, we traveled to many more places to include Soudha Bay, Crete; Ishmire, Turkey; Limesol, Cyprus; Malta; Palermo, Sicily; Malaga, Spain; Benidorm, Spain; Corfu, Greece; Naples, Italy; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Houston, Texas.

Some of the operations that we were involved with were NATO Operations in Bosnia, Aegian Sea Intelligence Reporting Operations and many other training exercises.

I left Cape St. George on July 7, 1995 when I was transferred to Fleet Technical Support Center, Atlantic (FTSCLANT) Norfolk, Virginia where I was responsible for assisting in the development of a new advance training course for the AN/SPY-1B/D Radar Systems.  I also served as a Technical Representative to the Norfolk based ships.

While assigned to FTSCLANT, Norfolk I was selected and intiated to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

I left FTSCLANT, Norfolk on June 22, 1996, when I transferred to USS Monterey (CG-61) in Norfolk, Virginia .

CAPE ST. GEORGE commemorates the battle fought in the South Pacific off the island of New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago on 25 November 1943.
