USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47) I reported to USS Ticonderoga in Naples, Italy, home ported in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 22, 1986 as an FC2 (E-5) and was assigned to CF Division where I worked on the AN/SPY-1A Radar System and later became the work center supervisor.
While onboard, we traveled to many new places to include Shannon, Ireland; Naples, Italy; Marsailles, France, Cartegena, Spain; Rota, Spain; Bergen, Norway; Gaeta, Italy; Istanbul, Turkey; Diego Garcia; Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; Guantanemo Bay, Cuba; St. Martin, French Virgin Islands; St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Savanna, Georgia.
Some of the operations that we were involved with were Operation Earnest Will: escorting Kuaiti oil tankers into the Persian Gulf (6 missions), Counter-Drug Law Enforcement Operations (LEO) throughout the Caribbean and many other training exercises.
I left Ticonderoga on December 28, 1988 when I was transferred to AEGIS Training Center in Dahlgren, Virginia to be an Instructor on the AN/SPY-1B/D Radar Systems.
During my first year there, I spent most of my time in school learning the upgraded radar system and how to become an Instructor.
Before leaving AEGIS Training Center, I qualified Master Training Specialist (MTS). I also attended AEGIS Weapon System school to learn all aspects of the AEGIS Weapon System.
I left AEGIS Training center on May 22, 1992, when I transferred to Pre-Commissioning Unit Cape St. George (CG-71) in Pascagoula, Mississippi .
