WEST CARIBBEAN CRUISE
on the CARNIVAL VALOR
Day 1 January 22/06
Flew into Miami and caught the transfer bus to the cruise ship registration. Our cruise departs at 4:00 pm, so had to get through all the red tape before we could leave. We embarked, got our pics taken (money grab!), found our cabin (with port hole for ocean view), and got settled in.
I had prearranged to have a "Honeymoon gift set" delivered to our room for Gary before we got there. It was there, as planned. It included a bottle of champaign, 2 flute glasses engraved with "honeymoon", 2 Carnival t-shirts, and 2 Carnival sun visors. Gary was surprised, and it is a nice souvenir of our honeymoon.
We then went up to the Lido deck to watch the ship set sail. It was very windy, even (dare I say) a bit cool. Wore a light jacket as we sailed away. Got ourselves a "welcome aboard" drink - they call them "specialty drinks" but don't give them a real name. This particular one was named "Funship Special". Each day, the specialty drinks are served, but the names and flavours change. They are all of the tropical drink variety though. Soon after, we had to go through our boat drill (aka safety drill).
We had dinner at Rosie's Restaurant (on Panorama deck) which serves buffet style dinners, with a beautiful view of the ocean. You can sit indoors, or out; we usually chose indoors because of the wind factor.
Other than that, we did a bit of exploring and orientation so that we knew where things were. Very strange feeling, walking on a cruise ship. Although I did not get seasick, I did feel a bit like I'd had a few too many, because you definitely could feel the slight swaying of the ship as she made her way over the ocean.
