"If you can train a Siberian Husky you can train any dog." |

Now, you may not agree with this statement, but it does serve to illustrate an important fact.
A Siberian Husky is not the dog for everyone.|
"They are just DOGS!" |

Siberian Huskies aren't JUST anything. That's why we love them. This is also why so many end up in rescues and shelters.
Siberians are independent thinkers

"You can train a Golden Retriever to pull a sled just like a Sibe. The difference is you tell a Golden to "Gee!" and he will. You tell a Sibe the same thing and she will wait for an opening in the trees." |

The Siberian Husky was developed to pull sleds, and to hunt with his owner. In the frozen Arctic the sled dog sometimes literally had to be the eyes, ears, and nose for their human leader.
A musher might tell his dogs to turn…right onto a crack in the ice…without realising it. His lead dog would have to make the choice to ignore this command for the safety of the team.
So, what does this mean for today's pet owner?
A Siberian Husky will never follow orders without question. Some people mistakenly believe that Sibes cannot be trained…some people think that they are stupid dogs. Neither of these statements are true. A Siberian can be trained to do the same things a Lab can do, if they can see the point. Sibes are not stupid.They are smart, almost too smart some might say. Their intelligence combines with their sometimes mischievous nature to give us the breed we love. It also produces one of the troublemakers of dogdom.
Siberian Huskies have a well-developed sense of humour.

"Ours [Sibes] have developed a new game. I think it all started when they realised how much we didn't want to get dirt on our work clothes. |
||||
|
Now they take turns jumping on us with their muddy paws before we head out to work. |
||||
|
Any belief that you have that it may be accidental is wiped put when you catch the look of absolute glee in their eyes as they scurry away. |
||||
|
The joy they derive from this game seems to have made them forget their previously favourite game of Hide-the-keys, for which I am grateful…however explaining the paw prints on my white shirt everyday to co-workers is somewhat tedious. Today I told them I was jumped by a wolf pack in the parking lot." |

I have never met a dog that could be trusted with a rabbit, but I have been told that they exist. However I have yet to hear of Siberian Husky that could be trusted with a bunny. Or a ferret, or a hamster, or a guinea pig…you get the picture.
Siberian Huskies can not be trusted with small animals. Their prey drive is too strong.|
|
Siberian Huskies can be very competitive…for that reason they will not always get along with other dogs. There is nothing as frightening as two female Sibes fighting it out. |
"He looks like a WOLF!" Is a statement every Siberian Husky owner will hear over the course of their life. Because of their looks, some people believe that Sibes are ferocious, or dangerous and would make great guard dogs. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Siberian Huskies are horrible guard dogs. They love everybody. A burglar will be greeted with same Sibe grin and happy Woo-hoo that Nanook gives your great-aunt Hilda.|
"I don't think he's coming back." |

Siberian Huskies like to run. A lot. They like to run, and run, and run. A Siberian off leash is a Siberian gone. A Siberian Husky should never be trusted off leash. |
