Catherine's Dream

It took place in a church. I was standing in a pew beside my Mother, Father, and twin sister Jane. A priest came out to the front of the church wearing a costume of a dog. I thought, "This guy is not a real priest, he's just a clown." All of a sudden, the congregation started to run to the back of the church and the doors slammed shut. Some people got out, some didn't.

Next, my family and I were standing in the aisle. The priest, now wearing a priestly robe, walked up to us and stopped in front of me. I sternly asked him, "Is this the church of God or the church of satan?" My Mother immediately tried to quiet me. I asked a second time, "Is this the church of God or the church of satan?" My Mother, embarrassed by my questions, tried to quiet me again. I then told her to be quiet. A third time I shouted out the same question. All of a sudden, the priest's nails began to grow and curled underneath.

The priest then took a sword from his side. I grabbed my sister's hand and we ran. As I looked back, the priest began to cut my Dad in half from the top of his head while my Mother just stood by his side. My sister and I got out safely from the side doors of the church, leaving my parents behind. End.

You can refer to Freud's method of interpretation for help with this dream analysis. You can also refer to Carolynn Helton's research project, which talks about symbolism in dreams.
