My
Master
By: Steve Garton |
 |
We traveled the plains a pair,
We forded rivers and startled
hare,
We herded cattle and watched
them die,
We did it together, he and
I.
We left alone the wary deer,
Just spooked out the grazing
steer,
Stampeded horses, branded
calves,
We did nothing by halves.
He cussed me, called me a
name,
And yet to him I owe my
fame.
For we were known far and
wide,
Always at each other's side.
I'm just an old cow pony,
Awfully sad and lonely,
Cause my pardner is here
no more,
And I long for those days
of yore.
He caressed me and fed me,
Loved me and petted me.
He was a cowman,
And I was his best man.
Well, he's gone now,
I've chased not another
cow,
He's crossed the Great Divide,
Now there's no one at my
side.
