1978 Mustang II Ghia Rebuild Project - by Norm Jones

Phase IV:  Road to Completion
Home

This is the last picture of my rebuild before it was running again.  It was starting to look pretty again.  I couldn't stand it anymore.  I brought it to a mechanic to finish it off.  He had to build some parts for it.  But when I picked it up, boy did it sound sweet. ($1200)

Off to the mechanic

When I got it back it ran well for the first couple of weeks.  Then it started to act like the timing was out. I brought it to a speed shop and had it professionally tuned by people who know what they're doing.  They got it working but after a couple of weeks it died.  I brought it back to them and they discovered that the $15 brass distributor gear that I bought was only to be used with certain roller cams.  It had been entirely chewed up and the pieces clogged up my oil pump. $420 later it was finally finished.

More powerful than a steaming locomotive. (Well the train hasn't steamed in 50 years but you get the idea)

At the park near my house.

In my driveway.

Here's the finished engine.  I replaced the old Accel 8.8's with their 300+ Race Wires.  I also swapped my MSD coil for my old Accel SuperCoil when I had starting problems.  (problem was the distributor gear, I thought I burnt out the coil from excessive heat)

About a month after it started running again. I replaced the back bumper with one I had shipped up from Atlanta. $200 for the part, $200 for painting and $80 for installation.

Ready to take on all comers.

Next step is to get some Centreline AutoDrag wheels and some tires, subframe connectors, new rear end, transmission rebuild, etc., etc., etc.
