Here you'll find information on EV activities for kids from the Junior Solar Sprint cars built by elementary school students to electrified race cars and Electrathon vehicles built by high school students competing in national competitions.
EVA/DC is actively involved in educating kids about EVs. Our Solar Powered Slot cars are a hit at EVA/DC displays around the Washington DC area. In addition, our members volunteer their skills and knowledge in helping area high schools on their EV projects.
Junior Solar Sprint
Hey kids, get involved in the Junior Solar Sprint. The Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) races are nationally sponsored by the US DOE National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, CO and the National Science Teachers Association for elementary school students. Locally, the races are sponsored by the Potomac Regional Solar Energy Association, sponsors of the SUN Energy Fair.
JSS cars are made from a small kit that has a small solar pannel and an electric motor. You can build the car using ordinary materials found around the house. The cars run on a 50 foot track guided by fishing wire.
