Horse
people make difficult children, tormented adolescents who refuse to grow
up and talented middle-agers who turn out to be damned extraordinary folk. Horses
cannot bear to be held in check. They must express themselves, feel
free and operate in an atmosphere that reflects them - and only them.
At home, the vases should be filled with bouquets of their favorite
flowers. The food should consist only of the Horse's favorites. It's
tough for the Horse to see other people's points of view. His way
is so obviously the best way. Why, he wonders, should anyone
go looking for a better solution? Very
often, immediately following childhood, whenever they can, Horses leave
home. It is thought, for their well-being, that Horses ought rather
to evolve directly from home into a marriage where solidity and stability,
children and responsibility will keep them from self-destruction. But,
as Horse people are essentially rebellious, they don't often take the
counsel of the sages. They decide to be free and strike out on their
own; they rent their own apartments in a city far from home where they
can breathe the purest air of independence without some parent or sibling
knocking on their privacy and meddling in their affairs. Freedom
from all constraint is, in fact, the young Horse's dream. Trouble is,
sometimes his dreams are bigger than his stomach, and when he gets out
there on his own, he can't handle it. Horses
often imagine the impossible to be at the tips of their busy fingers.
They might pilot an airplane single-handed without so much as one lesson
in flying. Or why not schuss down Mont Blanc one Friday afternoon next
week? Do they know how to ski? "No. But it can't be that hard.
Everyone does it." In
fact, Horses can learn to do almost any sport or craft. They
are talented for everything, from building their own houses to whipping
up a salmon mousse for a hundred people. They have clever hands and
can turn the least attractive piece of yarn left over from the afghan
your Aunt Ethel knitted in 1943 into a sweater or a bathing suit fit
for royalty. Whatever they may do, Horses are never awkward. They dress
well and carry themselves with dignity. Horses
make delightful companions and excellent friends. They are built for
hard work. Once they get off the ground and out of the long-suffering
adolescent stage, most Horse people are on the way to sure-fire success. Above all, the Horse is a rank pragmatist. If marriage is not exactly as prettily idyllic as the Horse had in mind, it's okay. The Horse will make do. He'll find a rationale to help him cope. Horses are troupers, practical in the extreme and only idealistic to a point. |
