Darth Bane Two thousand years after the demise of Exar Kun and the race of Massassi, a new Sith order emerged, founded by renegade Dark Jedi who had discovered the teachings of the Sith. These Dark Jedi recruited followers and dreamed of establishing a Sith empire. However, these Dark Jedi were greedy and power hungry. In their greed they destroyed one another, ending the brief reign of the new Sith. However, one survived: a Jedi named Darth Bane. He vowed to recreate the Sith order, but in a different way. From now on, to avoid any more cataclysmic confrontations that had happened throughout Sith history, there would be only two Sith at a time: a master and an apprentice. This way, the Sith would survive, unbenowest to the Republic, a shadowy menace to rise when the time was right. The fate of Darth Bane is unknown, but his legacy lives on. |
Darth Maul
Maul's first public appearance was to the Trade Federation as the apprentice of Sidious. At the start of the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo, Sidious sent Maul out to find and destroy the two Jedi ambassadors to the Federation, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul cornered Jinn on the planet of Tatooine, but Jinn escaped with the help of the Naboo and Obi-Wan, jumping up on the closing landing ramp of his ship as he dueled with Maul. Maul was then sent by Sidious to Naboo itself to keep an eye on the leaders of the Trade Federation. However, Jinn and Kenobi were also headed to Naboo, to bring back the queen of Naboo and to free the planet from Federation control. Both Kenobi and Jinn encountered Maul once more, and faced the Sith Lord's double-bladed lightsaber with their own. Reaching a series of sliding force field doors, Maul waited until Kenobi was trapped and then struck down Jinn. Enraged, Kenobi charged Maul and cut him in half, sending his body tumbling down a ventilation shaft. |
