The Materials Department supplies timely and cost efficient materials to various operating departments. Their activities include the receiving, warehousing, picking, packing, shipping, distributing and stock counting of more than 10,000 items of material. These items are controlled and monitored using a computerized inventory control system called PIPS.
The Ogden Main Store supplies material to Ogden Shops and is a major distribution center for various line stores in Calgary, Lethbridge, Golden and Port Coquitlam.Material is housed in three buildings on the complex. The No. 2 warehouse ( shown above ) is one of the most modern storage facilities on the railroad and covers an area of 2,230 square meters ( 2,667 square yards ). It uses a narrow aisle storage concept, and machinery that runs on a wire guidance system. It has a two-storey mezzanine storage system to maximize the storage space of the building.
