Anders ALENIUS Anders ---never married--a dealer in farm
products--a man of peculiar disposition.
ANDERS ALENIUS was the fourth of the brothers. He came to
Lycksele on business, and later became a dealer in farm products
and was present at all market days. He had the reputation of
being an expert on horses, but was otherwise a man of peculiar
disposition. He died at this brothers' place in Alsen--unmarried
as far as I know.

FORWARD
In 1743, a son was born in Lycksele, Lapland, to the vicar Anders
G. Alenius and his wife.
This son, Anders G. Alenius Jr. also became a clergyman--and he
and his wife were the parents
of 14 children.

It was the second child Anders Gustaf, who is the father of
" P.K." Per Kristian Alenius, and
beginning with "P.K." our most detailed information on
the fame of our ancestors unfold.
Records state that the father of P.K. Alenius was an itinerant
farmer and was very poor. There
are several versions of P.K.'s childhood--but all agree he left
his home in Lapland and made his
journey to Alson to live with his father's sister, Catharina
Charlotta. Catharina was the first
Alenius to settle in the province of Jamtland near Alson.
P.K. was a hearty, robust, athletic young man--an excellent
skier; and though from a very poor
background, he met and fell in love with Anna Kristina Goden.
Anna was the stepdaughter of
Johan Montelius--a man of great wealth and intelligence--highly
respected in the community.
P.K. and Anna married and were the parents of nine children--and
the following pages contain
stories and information about their children and their childrens
children and grandchildren, of
whom we are all a part.
I first became interested in the Alenius history when I traveled
to Sweden in 1978 with my Aunt,
Alyce Nichols. She talked incessantly all the way about various
Alenius family--and all of the
names were meaningless at that time. Aunt Alyce never got to
utilize any of the information she
had gathered in her researching family history, for shortly after
we returned to the U.S., she lost
her life in a car accident. All of the things she had collected
and worked on were boxed and sent
to me--hoping I would "do something" with them. I was
interested, but not inspired until I realized
we would be able to attend the Nelson Reunion in July 1988. I
began in January to seriously
concentrate on trying to put all the puzzle pieces together. It
was confusing, time consuming,
and contagious. After many hours of arranging, rearranging,
changing conflicting dates, etc., I
put together this booklet and a few pages of genealogy. Now each
member of the Alenius
family seens very real to me. I wish by some magic I could turn
back the years for a short while
so I could get to know them better. I would love to drop by the
home of Jacob and Sara Alenius
and sit around their lovely dining room table with its silver
service and china, and sip coffee with
them--with their ceiling high-high grandfather clock ticking away
and their flowering plants lining
the window sills. Looking at the kindly faces of Gottfrid and
Maria Alenius. I Just know I would
love them. They were devout Christians and well know for their
kind deeds in their community.
Though they had no children, they always gave gifts of money to
all the newborn in Morsil where
they lived. Or--it would have been fun to drop in at the home of
Johan Oscar Alenius (another
of P.K.'s sons) with his lively brood of six children. It is
reported he was a wealthy farmer and
merchant--loved to entertain guests in his home--and he was a
brilliant conversationalist.
Had I been as familiar with all of the Alenius background as I am
now, I would have asked
many, many more questions, taken more photos and poked around
more in the places where
they lived. Now, I want to go back!!! I regret most of all that
Aunt Alyce cant't see the results of
all of here efforts--and that she isn't here to attend the Nelson
reunion. She would have loved it.
But...I dedicate this book on the family history to her memory,
thankful that she spirited my
interest and that she took me back to the Country of our
ancestors.
Signed,
Shirley Nelson

Vicar
Andreas Anders ALENIUS was born on MAR 27 1743 in Lycksele,
Lapland Sweden. He died on MAY 10 1820 in Lycksele, Sweden.
Granlund i Lycksele-Sorsele. Anders Alenius gick i skola i Piteå
några brev bl a från föräldrarna. Carl Gustaf Bernhard
Alenius föddes den 16 februari 1744 och gick även han i skola i
Piteå och Härnösand för att sedan prästvigas år 1773. Han

Anna
Kristina "Stina" ALENIUS was born in 1847 in
Sweden. She died in 1936. Anna and Eric had seven children, but
several died when quite small. Not sure where the children got
the Surname "Thalin".
ANNA KRISTINA --- a keen and lively intellect--expert dairywoman
and was a supervisor and instructor at dairies of Torsta, As and
Ange--married Erik Persson a shoemaker. They had 7 children (some
died very young)--she lead an active life with servants and
numerous visitors and guests in her home.
Children of Anna Kristina & Erik Persson
a. Kristian Eriksson Thalin
b. Anna Persson Thalin--son Ake, a Policeman
c. Gustaf Persson Thalin--author of attached lengthy article on
the Montelius family--master Gardener of Hornsberg--Children:
Erik Thalin, Svante Thalin, Hilma Thalin & Anna Thalin Ferber
*Note: How did Anna Kristina and Erik Persson's children come by
the last name
of Thalin? Their daughter Anna, who lived in a nursing home in
Jarpen when Shirley Nelson and Alyce Nichols visited Sweden, has
one son and he is known as Ake Thalin. This is something I have
not been able to unravel. (S.N.)
NILS ALENIUS only daughter was ANNA KRISTINA ("STINA").
In her younger days she was with EUGENIA BLOM in Melen. (E. BLOM
was first at Admiral Morners in the royal farm and later at Major
Hartman's at Vagled on Froson). Later she became a dairywoman and
is now apparently the sole survivor of the students in the first
class that took the dairy training in Jamtland--organized in
Morsil in the 1860's. She married the farmer ERIK PERSSON in
Kjosta, Alsen (although it does not have much to do with this
account it can be said about the last named that the urge to
adventure and travel was in his blood, as it was in most
Jamtlanders, and in order to get out to see the world he at an
early age learned the shoemaker trade. Then with his hourneyman's
permit in his pocket--signed by a man named Moberg--he set out.
First he found employment at N. Lindquist in Ostersund, but later
set out as an itinerant journeyman in Morway. I have seen a
photograph of ERIK PERSSON from this period, and he looks like
the typical journeyman as we children of today have pictured
them, as for instance in the book " Andersson, Pettersson
and Lundstrom," in the wide-awake, likable member of this
time. Now the days of the journeyman are a matter of past
history, a really merry and interesting bit of our cultural
history. The children of this couple live and dwell both in towns
and country. So much for the Kontigent citizen's eldest son and
posterity.

Death of a Senior Citizen
The Widow, ANNA STINA ALENIUS PERSSON of KJOSTA
One of the last survivors of Alsen's older generation, the widow,
ANNA STINA PERSSON nee ALENIUS died at the advanced age of 89.
She was born in the Alenius home at Hof, the eldest child of the
merchant, NILS GUSTAF ALENIUS and wife, KERSTIN PERSDOTTER of the
Kovesta RODE family in Alsen. The deceased was the bearer of a
rich fund of traditions relating to the life of bygone days in
Alsen.
She grew up in the Alenius home where she spent the greater part
of her youthful years and since her grandfather, P.K. ALENIUS was
a member of the first 100 male citizens in the young city of
Ostersund, she gathered a great storehouse of memories that in
her old age fromed the substance of many stories she could relate
about the life and conditions in Ostersund's early days. And, she
had a fine opportunity to collect impressions since her
grandfather Alenius' home was the regular meeting place for great
numbers of relatives and neighbors who would frequently visit
this home, and she could tell a great deal about the cultural
life and about family connections in bygone days to those who
were too young to have had the opportunity to observe them
firsthand as she had done.
Later she lived in several other places. She spent some time in
the home of a business associate of her father, Erik in By,
Rodon: with a relative Eugenia Blom, who had a hotel in Melen,
and here she witnessed the dedication of the old communication
link by land and sea, the Ostersund connection to Trondheim.
Then she became a student in the first dairy class established in
the county at Myckelgard, Morsil. After completing this course,
she became a supervisor and instructor at the dairies of Torsta,
As, and Ange in Offerdal. Afterwards she was in the employ of the
Ocklind families in this city, and of Rissler at Hornberg, Morner
on the crown property, and Hartman in Vagled. All of this gave
her many interesting observations that she could communicate to
younger generations.
In 1871 she married the farmer, ERIK PERSSON of Kjosta in Alsen.
She became the mother of seven children, several of whom died at
an early age. The couple managed their farm for some forty years,
and there was always an active life with servants and numerous
visitors and guests. This was a life that must have had great
appeal to the deceased individual, accustomed to living with a
great variety of people in her surroundings.
She was endowed with a keen and lively intellect, and to her
final days she, with great interest, kept up with the events
occurring in her neighborhood and in the world at large.
The nearest relatives to mourn her demise at the funeral were
three of her children, one of whom was the master gardener GUSTAF
PERSSON THALIN of Hornsberg: KRISTIAN ERIKSSON THALIN, and ANNA
PERSSON THALIN.
Parents: Nils Gustaf ALENIUS and Kerstin PERSDOTTER RODE.
Children were: Kristian Eriksson THALIN, Anna Persson THALIN, Gustaf Persson THALIN.
