THIRD GENERATION

Charles Darrington (1812-1894) and Elizabeth Rowe (1814-1894)

Charles Darrington was born September 1, 1812 in Burke Co., NC, the son of Patrick and Katharine Darrington. After his father's death in Franklin Co., GA in 1821, and his mother Katharine's remarriage in 1827, Charles left home at the age of only 14. Although he may have first gone to live on land won in the Georgia Land Lottery in Lee Co., GA, he seems to have been living in the household of his father's friend Wyatt Lankford in Franklin Co. during the early 1830s.

In 1837 Charles moved to Troup Co., GA and there married Elizabeth "Bettie" Rowe (1814-June 14, 1894), daughter of David Rowe and Charlotte Rigby. Charles and Elizabeth moved with her father David Rowe to Meriweather Co., GA by 1850, and lived there until moving finally to Heard Co., GA by 1880. Elizabeth died on June 14, 1894, and Charles died only 4 months later on October 27. Both were buried in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Heard Co. See obituaries for both Charles and Bettie Roe Darrington, and the inventory and appraisal of Charles Darrington's estate. See also photos of the headstones for Charles and Bettie Darrington.
