Obituary of Charles Darrington

[Franklin News & Banner, December 7, 1894]

In Memory of Charles Darrington

Our father, Mr. Charles Darrington, departed this life Oct. 27, 1894, at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 27 days. He was born in N.C. and while very young his father and mother came to Franklin County, Ga., where his father died. He continued to live with his mother until he was about 14 years old, when, by her consent, he left her to make the best of life he could. From thence he went into some of the lower counties of this state, where he remained until about the year 1837. He then went into Troup County, where he was married to Miss Elizabeth Rowe on the third day of October, 1838. In 1843 they removed and settled near Warm Springs, in Meriwether County, where they lived until Dec. 1871, when they removed to Rockalo, Heard County. There were eleven children born unto them, six of whom died in infancy and early childhood, and five have survived them.

Our father united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Bethlehem, Meriwether County, Ga. in the year 1857. Our mother was a member of the same church. In this faith they lived from the time of their connection with the church, unchanged by the whims and notions of men, until their death, each striving at all times to discharge their duty as husband and wife, father and mother, and followers of the meek and lowly Jesus.

They have gone to reap the reward of the righteous. And we, their children, four daughters and one son, are left to mourn the loss of a dear father and mother. But believing as we do, that our earthly loss is their heavenly gain, we can but bow in humble submission to him that doeth all things well, and say, "The will of God is accomplished. Blessed be the name of the Lord."
