Paradise Lost

1/2

In this episode, all flaming heck breaks loose when Baloo and Wildcat team up with a mysterious safari tour guide to find an ancient land. In this land there are real live dinosaurs, but when Baloo finds out about the "tour guide's" intentions to hunt the dinos down, he and Wildcat have to save them!

Karmacat's Thoughts

KARMACAT'S SLIGHTLY OFF BEAT PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE, SOME OF WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT REFER TO TALESPIN, DEPENDING ON HER MOOD, AS THIS IS BEING WRITTEN ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL AND SHE JUST BOMBED HER CHEMISTRY FINAL BUT WAS VERY HAPPY TO COME HOME AND WATCH TALESPIN BEFORE SHE WENT TO SEE "GODZILLA" WITH HER DELINQUENT FRIENDS:
Wildcat: St. Francis of Assisi or acid freak? You make the call. This is on of the very few episodes I have seen that focus mainly on Wildcat, and I can honestly say I wish there were more, because he really is an interesting character. And this episode was just strange enough to fit him.
Was this made before or after Jurassic Park came out? Half the time I expected to see Sam Neil walk out, all sweaty and dirty, with those two annoying kids in tow. yeah. Mommy's very angry.
But this one did have an interesting message, and I've found that when I talk to people who haven't seen Talespin since they were kids, this is the one that sticks in their memory. And I can see why. The scenery of the Dino-Land was very pretty, and the whole concept was pretty original: every one hundred years water splashes into some mystical valley, bringing plants and dinosaurs to life. The element of the hunter made sense as well. If anybody reading this has read Kurt Vonnegut's "A Sound of Thunder" they'd understand. Maybe that's where the writers got the idea for this one.
I didn't much care for the hunter. He looked like the kind of guy who'd be sweaty and panting all the time. Although, I did recognize his voice....Jim Cummings, I'm betting, since he does the voices for just about everything and it's grandma. I liked it when the hunter said "Yeah, dinosaurs," and the word "protection". The voice was so baritone that if I had attached a sub-woofer to the TV I bet I could've shattered windows down the block.
Yeaaaah. I'll have to do that sometime. If anybody wants to pitch me five hundred for a sub-woofer....
Random thought. Was the hunter a Fumbrian? He seems awfully spirited for a Fumbrian.
Wildcat was excellent in this episode. Not only was he awash with his characteristic silliness, he also showed the side I've always known he has: the mature and intelligent one. That's why I've always liked Wildcat. He's probably smarter than anyone on the show and just doesn't let it out. He's such an Aquarian.
He looked very good with a butterfly following him, for some reason. It was fitting for him to have a little friend. I think he should have the butterfly in all the episodes. I liked the thing about the jellybeans as well. Who else would feed a dinosaur jellybeans? I mean, in Jurassic Park they fed the dang thing a goat.
I thought very highly of WildCat's actions at the end, when he plugged the water source. It was a sad but noble thing for him to do.
I love Wildcat! (But I don't think he's lover material. He's too innocent. I just couldn't. I'd rather take him to get ice cream.)
And at the end, when he set up that rigging in order to blast the water open, it was just one of those moments when you sit back and say, 'That's one smart cat, right there." Go Wildcat! Yeah baby, yeah!
Baloo: Well, he was Baloo. Round.
I can't find anything I really didn't like about this episode.
Hey, for those of you who watch the 1:30 Talespin on the Disney Channel and tend to put the TV on a few minutes early, I was thinking of doing a "Will Quack Quack" review. I think I should expose that yellow duck for the sadistic ax murderer he really is.

Watch out for my fanfic "Thy Fearful Symmetry", which is about you-know-who! Coming soon to a whole lot of URL's, and you had better read it, because I worked like a dog on it.
