Hi! Percy here again! I gather you'd like to know more about where we Puffins live.
We breed along the coasts of the North Atlantic from Greenland to the Gulf of St Lawrence in the west, and from Spitzenbergen and Novaya Zemlya to the British Isles and Northern France in the east. Some of us spread as far south as the Canaries and into the Mediterranean as far as the Adriatic.
Puffins are safer from storms in the open sea than they would be closer to land.
British Puffins have been found wintering in American waters but not all of us migrate away from our breeding places. We regularly spend the winter in Baffin Bay and in mild winters we stay near Amsterdam Island, north of Spitzenbergen, despite the low temperatures and continual darkness of the Arctic winter. We don't mind so much because it's nice to be near home!

If you'd like to know more about our locations, have a look at the map:

The Horned Puffin, our cousins in the North Pacific, has fleshy growths over the eyes and has a different coloured bill. Horned Puffins breed on either side of the Bering sea. Another Pacific Puffin is the Tufted Puffin, and our tufted cousins are all black except for a white face and long tufted feathers sprouting from above the eyes. Tufted Puffins have a bill that is red and green! Very pretty.
