Quotation marks

As shown by Table [*], quotation marks  used in Bible manuscripts depends on whether the language uses Roman or Non-Roman scripts. In Roman script languages, the wedge characters <> are used for quotation marks to differentiate them from accent marks. However, under no circumstances should the ambiguous (") character be used to type quotes. Also, a thinspace \| should be placed between single and double quotation marks when one immediately follows the other (i.e., the typist should type '\|'' or >\|>>, depending on the script used).
