ZIAUDDIN MEDICAL COLLEGE
The College offers a five-year degree programme of MBBS in line with the Regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the Regulatory Body responsible for issuing license to practice. Necessary permission has been granted by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to Ziauddin Medical University to start a Community-Oriented Medical Education (COME) programme for undergraduates leading to the MBBS degree of Ziauddin Medical University.
Since the inception of the College in 1996, three batches of students for MBBS programme have been enrolled.
In addition to teaching, the University campus in Clifton handles administrative and student affairs of the Medical College. Student learning sites include Clifton campus, Ziauddin Hospital in North Nazimabad , KDLB Hospital Kemari, PHC clinics in community-based settings in Sikanderabad and Chanesar Goth. In the years ahead, more PHC clinics as well as linkages with other hospitals are expected to be established for improved services, training and research .
The College programme is innovative which is aimed at training students in skills required to be an effective and efficient primary care physicians. From the very first year, the educational programme allows students to experience problems, situations which physicians generally encounter in actual clinical practice. Emphasis is on student centered learning and community based education.
The academic calendar for the year 1998-99 will begin in the month of December. For the first two years of the MBBS degree programme, the academic schedule reflects the innovating systems-based course. The duration of each course varies and attendance of 80% is required by each student. Student performance in each course is judged on the basis of attendance, performance in tests, tutorials, field visits, practicals, dissections and assignments.
