I have created a new site at www.skygrazer.com. I will leave the Draggle's Lair up but I won't be updating it anymore so please click here to go to the most current version.

Polymer Clay Jewelry

When I first started using polymer clay, I thought I'd never make jewelry. I was having too much fun making little animals and I don't wear much jewelry anyway.. Or at least not the type of large beaded necklaces that seemed to be typical with polymer clay. But as I discovered new techniques and saw more and more of other people's work I began to experiment with making things to wear.

Pins

This is my variation of Sue Heaser's dragon pin from her book, "Making Polymer Clay Jewelry". It's a wonderful book and well worth looking at if you are at all interested in making jewelry.

The feather shape was cut out of black Premo. Then I used a needle tool to carve the details. It was dusted with Aztec Gold Pearl-Ex before baking and given a coat of Future afterwards.

Necklaces

The seahorse and shells were made from molds of the real objects. I used irridescent seed beads for the seahorse's eye and for accents on the necklace and earrings. Pearl-ex powder gives irridescence to the clay.

These beads originally started out as Mokume Gane with gold leaf. I didn't really like the color combinations so I marbled it. I think it looks a little like pink marble. The large pendant bead has a gold impression of a tiny seahorse on both sides. The starfish earrings were made from molds of a real starfish.

This necklace was made by putting metallic clay on the back of a clear mosaic marble. It was baked and then framed with more clay. It was highlighted with Treasure Gold, a metallic wax rubbing compound, and sealed with Future.

Work in Progress

I've always liked the jewelry thats made by dipping real leaves in gold. This is my attempt to acheive a similar look with polymer clay. I think these birch leaves will become a necklace and earrings in the near future.

Maple leaves.

I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do with these yet. Any ideas? They're both made from slices of mokume gane.
