-------------------------

From ArizonaScanner 30 May 2001 - 168.225 is the law enforcement channel for BLM & some NPS. There is a site on Smith, Lemmon, White Tanks with a few others. Mostly you will hear Mt Lemmon. 168.300 should pickup soon. 75% of law enforcement traffic from Tonto NF will be on the digital Maricopa Sheriffs system since MCSO does all of the vehicle/person checks for Tonto NF L/E. Some will be on Tonto NF Firenet 1, Tonto NF Ch2 168.725 or Admin, Tonto NF Ch 6 164.825. Also for Prescott NF alot of L/E traffic is on Yavapi Sheriffs office main ch's. So for NF, BLM LE listen to your local county sheriff dept.

In So Cal. California BLM L/E uses the Riverside County Sheriffs system for L/E use within Riverside County. Outside of the county they use other county systems as well as VHF L/E Nets. All NF's use their own ch's for L/E use.

Rural Metro

Rural Metro is a private, for profit corporation that provides ambulance and fire service to large areas of Arizona.

-----------------------------------------------

per Email received from a Rural Metro officer in Jan 2000 - Rural Metro now provides fire service in Pima, Pinal, Maricopa, and Yuma Counties in AZ - they have communication centers in Scottsdale, Tucson, and Yuma - there are 24 Phoenix area fire stations (with 2 more to be added in 2000), 11 Tucson area stations, and ?4 Yuma area stations. At the present time Rural Metro has road security patrols operating in Maricopa County only.

-----------------------------------------------

Rural Metro Radio system - Primary - 154.37R - 154.40 firescene - 154.385 firescene

Rural Metro provides staffing, equipment, and administrative services to the Fountain Hills Fire District. 2 stations housing a total of 2 engines and 2 ambulances are used to protect Fountain Hills and the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation. 8 firefighters are on duty per shift and they are augmented by 15 reserve firefighters. (The tribal governemt has a agreement with the Fountain Hills Fire District for protection therefore Rural Metro ends up protecting the Indian reservation. Fort McDowell IR may start their own FD in 2000.)

Rural Metro Dispatch used to have a website with some wacky audio files but I cant find them now - 1/2000

A guess the first Tstorm knocked them off the air.

Date: MonJul31,20009:43pm Subject: Re: MCSO 800 failure last nite They were still on West Dispatch this morning around 7:00, they sounded sorta like they had forgotten how to use the radios, trying to figure out what buttons to hit for what modes and such..

In ArizonaScanner@egroups.com Was anyone else up about 01:30 last night during that storm and catch MCSO coming up on their old system? Dispatcher stated a complete system shutdown occurred and started moving westside units back to ch1 uhf for a period of time.

----------

Tucson FD - 26 March 2001 info

How are channels set up? Home channel / primary channel is Channel 1? Units move to other channels only on major incidents?

Answer - Home is F2 on Zone A and the dispatch includes assignment to either F1 or F3 depending on whether it is EMS or fire related. The typical TFD setup is as follows:

Zone A
F1 - EMS (future EMS west)
F2 - Dispatch
F3 - Fire
F4 - Administration (future EMS east)
F5 - "Not used" (future Administration)
F6 - Sole Provider
F7 - Simplex Fireground
F8 - Simplex Fireground
F9 - Simplex Fireground
F10 - Central Arizona Project Incidents
F11 - University of Arizona PD Ch. #1
F12 - Gateway (interagency)
Zone B
F1 - Meds Channel 1 Telemetry
F2 - Meds Channel 2 EMSCom
F3 - Meds Channel 3 EMSCom
F4 - Meds Channel 4 Telemetry
F5 - Meds Channel 5 EMSCom
F6 - Meds Channel 6 Telemetry
F7 - Meds Channel 7 "Not used"
F8 - Meds Channel 8 Telemetry
F9 - Meds Channel 9 Hospital Radio/RCC
F10 - Meds Channel 10 Dispatch
F11 - Tucson Airport Authority FD
F12 - Gateway (interagency)

1. F6 "sole provider" is for contact with the private ambulances? Right? Yes, currently the contract is held by Southwest/Rural Metro...

2. The gateway freq is linked to ?154.31? the statewide mutual aid fire radio channel? Is A12 and B12 the same "gateway" freq? A12 and B12 is the same but the Gateway system is tri-band using 155.31 / 453.35 / ?866.25. 154.28 is the statewide mutual aid usually used for wildland fires, but is not part of the Tucson/Pima County Gateway system...

Original Message ----- ...The City of Phoenix has discovered that when they get close to certain cell towers, their 800MHz radios cut out -- completely. They've had to stop a SWAT deployment once because the cops lost communications. Their fire trucks have had to learn where these dead areas are to do work-arounds. We have heard that places in Oregon and Washington have had similar problems. All have reported this to the FCC with no satisfaction. Our dilemma is that there is a proposal to put what's known as an infrastructure cell tower just below our EOC on National Guard property. This is not your usual cell site, but a tower that can have up to over 1000 watts of power and several cell providers. We haven't been able to convince anyone that that could put us out of business, and our community of 3 million people in jeopardy. It seems cell providers have as much power as the railroads had in the last century. The Guard sees this as a way to help their budget by leasing property to the cell infrastructure provider. Of course they made sure the tower was well away from their commo and helipads. Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management
